Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Movies often result in spin off books and the film Rio has produced several. This story was based on the motion picture screenplay by Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones. Blu is the narrator and he is a rare Spix Macaw. He began life in the rainforest in Brazil, but was raised in Minnesota. He is brought back to Rio de Janeiro to save his species. There is a female of his species named Jewel who is destined as a mate for Blu. However things don't always go as planned and the bird smugglers manage to capture the two macaws and manacle them together. How are they going to get these chains removed? They get help from Rafael, a friendly toucan who takes them to Luiz where they are freed, but their freedom was short lived as they are both eventually captured by Nigel and spirited away. How will it all end? Those who have seen the movie will know and others will find out by reading this book. The illustrations are stills from the movie. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

A nice, colorful summary story of the movie

This book is what you expect: a high-level retelling of the movie with colorful, well-done pictures and small amount of text.

If your 2-6 year old likes Rio, they would probably like you reading this book, but since it is only 24 pages, it understandably glosses over/skips certain parts of the movie.
