In 1918, Robert Ripley began drawing cartoons featuring strange feats, miracles, and world wonders. He called his newspaper column, Believe It or Not. Ripley visited many countries, searching out interesting stories for his column. Soon, weird exhibitions, called "odditoriums," were collected and shown in Ripley museums. Readers may not believe everything in this book, but Robert Ripley often said, "There's nothing stranger than the truth." Whether they believe the tales, young readers will enjoy this collection of funny and incredible facts. What about a man who eats airplanes? How about a man who buries himself under 100 cubic feet of popcorn and breathes through a snorkel as he eats? There are strange and interesting facts in many categories, ranging from animals, hair, the human body, sports, and much more. Meet people and animals who have engaged in silly, amazing, or just plain weird activities. At a ski resort near Beijing, China, a 1,000-pound potbellied pig carried guests around the property. A man from India has four inches of hair growing from his ears. Another hairy person from China has not cut her hair for twenty-eight years! It measures a little over fourteen feet long.     Great Way to get boys to read!

    This was a gift for my 11 year old nephew. He told me he loved it. It is filled with interesting and often disgusting fun facts that really appeal to the 10-14 year old.
