Children's Literature - Elizabeth McMunn-Tetangco
A man who can deflect a cannon ball with his stomach! Art made out of trash! A man who loops snakes from his nostrils out through his mouth! It is crazy! It is amazing! It is another title in the sixteen book series that comprises the lushly photographed "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" books. This book's theme, "Off the Wall" is a seemingly random assortment of facts, photos, profiles, and information that will leave young readers browsing for more. Chock-full of fascinating tidbits (Did you know that Ed Charon, of Portland, Oregon, is the world's greatest ripper of telephone books?), this book will appeal to enthusiasts of the random and reluctant readers alike. Some of it is weird, some of it is scary, but all of it is amazing. This book would be a good addition to an elementary school or junior high library—there is enough in it to fascinate kids (and adults) for hours. Reviewer: Elizabeth McMunn-Tetangco
