A Rose Gardner Mystery novella #6.5 in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling series

After her assistant DA boyfriend's near brush with death, Rose Gardner hopes to make it through the holiday season with a minimal amount of drama. But she can't forget the promise she made to the king of the Fenton County underworld in exchange for Mason's life. What's worse, she's not the only one keeping secrets--Mason has been working on a hush-hush case in his private time, Joe is grappling with the sudden reappearance of his sister after a mysterious two-year disappearance, and Hilary continues in her single-minded quest to secure a commitment from Joe at any cost--for motives only she understands.

Though peace and quiet is all Rose wants, it's the last thing she's liable to get. And the ripple of secrets in her life threatens to create an undertow that will endanger her and everyone she holds dear.

Includes POVs from Joe, Mason, Hilary, and Skeeter.

Wow. and. oh! wow! and OH! WOW!  Talk about some shockers!  If you follow are following Rose's story, you are going to read this novella any way but YOU HAVE TO READ THIS ONE!  The two biggest things that happen are that we find out a great deal about why Hillary is the way she is!!!!  And someone that Rose cares about is endangered!   I don't want to wait more than a month to get back to Henryetta!

I love this series! I especially love the in between novellas...the POVs of the other characters makes so much fall into place. Loved getting an inside glimpse of Hilary. Makes her more human.

Love the different POV's… WOW! I really love when we get a "bonus" novel with different POV's. In this book, the reader gets to read the POV's from Joe, Mason, Hilary, and Skeeter. I loved Skeeter's POV. Although he is "the crime boss" he is likeable as a character and he, like Rose, reveals that all is not black and white. I did feel some sympathy for Hilary in her POV, but I still don't like her. All in all, this was a great in-between novella.

Another amazing novella that really fills in details and backstory the reader might not otherwise get a chance to know based on multiple POVs from important characters. It's emotional, it's intense, and it really fills out the main story even more.

Secrets can either be helpful or hurtful. What is hard is deciding which one a secret is. Will it hurt a person to learn the secret? Or will keeping quiet spare them the pain? In this novella, we learn many secrets from the characters in the series. I have posted in many reviews that I love novellas and how having the POV’s of other characters really help bring the series alive. Since we look at Rose’s world through her eyes, we only know what she knows and her views can be skewed, bias and sometimes naïve. I love the chance to get to know what the other characters are feeling and to learn more about their histories. In this novella, we have the POVs of Joe, Mason, Hilary and Skeeter. Since previous novellas have Joe and Mason’s POVs, I was happy to see that the “voice” and feel of these two men were consistent with their characters. Skeeter has a lot more to him than the persona he shows the world and I only wish there was more from him. I do have a warning about Hilary’s section. It is very emotional and raw. I applaud Denise for her courage to tell Hilary’s story.
