I fell in love with this series from the moment I began reading

I fell in love with this series from the moment I began reading Eve. Everything about the story appealed to me: the characters, led by the incredibly endearing Eve; the history that created this world; the danger, action and adventure; and most of all Anna Carey's incredible writing. And I have to say that throughout the series, Carey has never been afraid to take risks with the story. No one was safe, and I found myself heartbroken more than once.

So having read Eve and Once, I was extremely anxious for Rise. I mean, the ending of Once was so brutal, and I had to know what happened next. Now that I have read Rise, I can say that I did like the story, and Carey's writing is still gorgeous.

In an effort to keep this spoiler free, I'm not going to go into the plot. At all. I can say, though, that the story is surprising, intense, and brutal. And I do applaud Carey for not making the story easy, and for not holding any punches. And though I felt it was authentic to someone of her age and circumstance, I know that some readers have felt Eve was impulsive and reckless. I think they would appreciate her character growth in Rise.

At the conclusion of the series, I can say that I am satisfied. I thought the story was extremely well-paced and well-written. Did everything I want to happen come to pass? I won't say, because if you've read the series, you'll know what I'm talking about. I did feel the ending was extremely abrupt. In fact, I was about to tear my ARC apart looking for missing pages. I didn't like that it just stopped, though I can maybe see why that happened. I will say that I would love if an epilogue had been added. Having said that, I still think Rise was a satisfactory ending to the Eve Series.

    Great book

Ok well I finished the book and yes it is the last one...lol... This is a great series for anyone that enjoys books like hunger games, divergent, & other similar books... I was however I little disappointed that they didn't go into more detail on the ending, but I can't say anything else without spoiling it, but this really is a great series, definitely worth the time and money to read it....

Seriously, I'm just blown away by this series. Rise was full of surprises both good and bad. I fell in love with this series from the first page from EVE. Anna did such an amazing job and you can see how she matured in her writing throughout the series. I felt such a connection with the main characters that their tears were my own. This series is one of my top favorites. MUST READ!!!!

    Good series

I really enjoyed this series but Once kind of let me down. It seem very rushed and had no real climax. It also left you with a cliffhanger yet its the last in the series. My suggestion would have been an epiloge or some sort of real ending. Your not just ending one book here, your ending a whole series. It sort of felt like the author just decided to stop writing. I even looked on the triology's website thinking that maybe an extra was posted there, like another chapter. But sadly, nothing. Other than that i really enjoyed reading it... but Anna? PLEASE GIVE US ANOTHER CHAPTER. I NEED IT.

Dynamic and gripping tale. I loved the series and got totally caught up in the characters. Eve faced so many hardships but she kept going on
struggling for what she felt was right. The ending was satisfying, but I wish we would have had a little more insight into her new life. I felt just a little cheated not knowing a few more details, however, it was enough.

NOTE: There are spoilers for books one and two, Eve and Once res

NOTE: There are spoilers for books one and two, Eve and Once respectively, in this review. Read at your own risk.

If you've read my review of Eve, then you'd know that I loved that book. Like, a lot. There was the right amount of action and romance and mystery that just made the book all that amazing. Then if you've read my review of Once, then you'd know that I wasn't too fond of that one, although I didn't hate it either. Once suffered from Second Book Syndrome, and it just didn't have as much going on as the first book, which made it somewhat boring.

Now if you've read my review of Rise, then--

Oh, wait. That's what you're doing. Right. Knew that.

Onto the review. To be blunt, Rise was boring. Nothing happens until page 280. At least, nothing interesting, anyway. The first 280 pages was a whole bunch of Eve missing Caleb, Eve pretending (yes, I say pretending) to be brave, and Eve putting people in danger. And in the middle, maybe even a little bit of Eve being the naive little girl that she was in book one. Basically, throughout this entire book, the entire book, Eve annoyed the crap out of me.

Around page 100, Eve helps girls from the Schools that have come to the City escape. Nine of them. At first, it seems like a good idea to her. But then they get on the road and this one girl--Bette--doesn't like her. (Shocker.) Eve begins to realize that this is a bad idea. (No crap?) So Eve's taking these girls to Califia, and at first I think this is a great idea to move the plot along, but no. Again with the nothing happening. They travel for about 100 pages of nothing. Turns out, Bette's stupid, almost gets them killed, and she still manages to despise Eve in her free time.

I think the biggest fault with this book was my lack of emotion toward the characters. Well, any emotion other than hate. I think that a book's characters should be memorable enough that even if it takes me three years to pick up the next book, I should still remember how much I cared about the characters. I didn't care about any of the characters in Rise. Also, I don't think Carey gives us enough time to cultivate feelings for the girls from the Schools that Eve brings to Califia. The book seemed rushed to me.

Nothing happened (I've said this several times, I realize), but things were still rushed. When I say nothing happened, I mean nothing important happened. The events that did occur seemed irrelevant to me. In Eve and even in Once, the major plot points were clear and big and meaningful, but in Rise they just didn't seem as, you know, clear and big and meaningful.

In conclusion, I just wasn't feeling it with Rise. I'm not going to say that Rise ruined the series for me, because I don't regret reading the trilogy, per say. It's just that it wasn't the best ending that could've happened for the trilogy. I think the ending should've been bigger and better and just more monumental than it actually was.

    Reviewed by Janessa, Age 15
I always seem to read a series backwards, but in the case of Rise, it didn’t make a difference as this is a stunningly beautiful book that easily stands alone on its own. This book is set is a dystopian America, a big hit among authors with the teenage groups, and follows the story of a lovely young woman trapped at the heart of her father’s power hungry battle in the New America and married to a man and one of his advisers that isn’t the man she truly loves; Caleb. What is a girl to do that doesn’t have it in her to merely follow along blindly? Eve derives a plot to take down the King’s court and this horrid New America, but does she have what it takes and can she find the help she needs to succeed?
“Stay here? Wait until there’s another attack? Wait until they tell me they’ve found you? You can’t go alone, Eve.”
If you are looking for a new book outside the realm of fairies and wizards and prefer books like The Hunger Games then the Eve series will be a guaranteed hit and favorite on your bookshelf.
