Overview

In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King’s Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill.

When ex-Army medic Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah’s life, a chain reaction sets Micah’s heart on a collision course with Sam’s, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband, Steve, if they will have a chance at forever. Can Micah hold his emotions together to keep Sam alive?

Meet the Author

Donya resides in Indianapolis, Indiana, with her husband and a small zoo of cats and dogs. In fact, her writing buddy, Lucky, might become more famous than she is, based on the feedback the ever-present feline receives on her Facebook page. As a little girl, Donya always had a book in her hand. As she got older, the books became pens and notebooks, which she filled with stories and poetry. For as long as she remembers, she has been writing and dreaming up stories. Seems writing was her destiny. Donya loves music and often finds inspiration for her stories in the wide range of music she listens to. Nothing like a little Korn to propel the angst in a scene, or Enya to evoke softer and more romantic storylines. She has several projects planned and in progreass, including eight more novels in the All the King's Men series and several short stories and novellas. She would love to share her journey with you.

Two and a half to three stars. Editing was good and the storyline was excellent. What caused my lower reviews was that the m/f sex scenes were not as explicit as I like and the gay scene was more information than I wanted. Most authors will make a notation if there are gay situations present in the story to not merely warn persons who don't want books with those scenes but to also highlight them for persons who might enjoy them. In this book, it can be difficult to figure out who's straight, who's bi and who's gay. That makes it difficult to root for which characters should hook up in later books since even they can't even figure out what they are.

INCREDIBLE NEW FIND! Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: Generally I don't like to do the comparison thing, but I feel like I sort of have to here so people get a bit of a feel of what they'll be jumping into. ALL THE KINGS MEN is sort of like a subset of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, meets Alpha Pack, meets Brotherhood of Blood. All the Kings Men is a group of warriors trained to fight rogue shapeshifters and other problematic preternaturals. Micah is one of the strongest on the team, but he's had a rough run with his mates and is in a VERY bad place as the story begins. He's a complex, tortured, bad boy and if you like alpha males, you can't help but love him and feel for the guy. Sam is one of those bad a** heroines that you love to love. She holds her own, looks out for others, is sexy, savvy and smart. Her and Micah together are absolute dynamite! The sexual chemistry of these two literally jumps off of the page and you can't help but re-read sections because they are really...just...that...good! The supporting cast was phenomenal as well. I personally cannot wait to find out more about Trace, the myserious self appointed guardian of Micah and best friend of the couple. There is so much more than meets the eye with him and I am so excited to find out what's up. The bad guys in this tale were nasty. Diabolical in their scheming, ruthless in their pursuit, and utterly enjoyable to read. If you haven't gotten the hint, I loved the book. I thought it was fantastic. My one problem was the ending because I am not a fan of the cliff-hanger and Donya was a dirty tease at the end of this book. The bonus is that I don't have to wait long for book #2 to find out what the heck happens. :) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Rise of the Fallen 4 1/2 Skulls and would recommend it to Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and all Alpha Male Vampire lovers. Definitely a great new find and I want to thank Jowanna at Pimpin' Reads for telling me I had to read it! :)

I bought this book on a recommendation from not one friend but three. I must say that I did enjoy it very much. I love that the heroine is not some sappy woman. She is strong, determined and can kick some major butt. And what can you say about Micah. He is the bad boy that almost every girl wants in her bed. I am looking forward to seeing the next book in the series. I mean there has to be, she can't leave us wondering about Sev and Ari. And what about Trace? If you are reading this Mrs. Lynne, Please please give us another book or 10? Thanks!

A GraveTells Review: Alluring and compelling, I couldn't put it down! Hot. Lethal. Vampire. That's Micah, our sexy, brooding, complicated hero. Not only is he powerful, one of the oldest of his kind, he's got a good heart and his needs run deep. His character is beautifully crafted by Ms. Lynne; where as he could easily have come across as selfish and violently overindulgent, a turn-off to be sure, each chapter brings surprises and I loved watching his personality bloom. His mate, Samantha, is on the run from an abusive husband and working as a very successful stripper at a local joint. She's ex-army, so she knows her way around the business end of a weapon, and she's kind and sharp-witted. Sometimes it's hard to like the heroines paired with our favorite (usually damaged) heroes, but I was Team Samantha all the way. The connection between Micah and Sam is quick and dirty, and they have some smoking hot sex! I love that Ms. Lynne doesn't shy away from putting several open-door love scenes back to back... there's no wondering what happens "after" as the door is slammed shut on the reader. I can honestly say I don't think I've ever enjoyed knife foreplay before, but yowza! Well done! There are also hints of BDSM and some m/m in the coming books and I found myself both not wanting to finish reading, I enjoyed the story so much, AND wanting to race to the next book in the series to get my fix.... Which brings me to the mysterious, endearingly vulnerable yet lethal vampire warrior called Trace. Is there anything sexier than a gorgeous, powerful man submitting to another strong male? Needing to be confined and feel the bite of pain? If you're a fan of Vishous from the BDB, Traceon is going to be just your style. He's the self-appointed guardian to one of the most lethal of the AKM enforcers and protects Micah as if he already serves him. Drool much? Speaking of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the vampires in All the King's Men are pretty similar: they can't abide sunlight, they must drink blood to survive, some of them have special abilities (like teleportation), they bond strongly with their mates, and they're practically walking arsenals with lethal fighting skills. Micah is one of the older vamps, so he's a pro with both his knives and his guns, and meeting a woman who knows how to handle his weapons (ah, no pun intended! :p) is a real turn on. The secondary characters all stand out and practically beg for their own books. Its been a long time since a series has snagged my attention as thoroughly as the Black Dagger Brotherhood did, but All the King's Men has that distractingly addictive potential and this first story in the series holds nothing back. Alluring and compelling, Rise of the Fallen is rich in story depth and likeable, flawed characters... men you can seriously get addicted to reading more about. Read at your own risk, because you just might find yourself wanting your very own Micah (and Trace)!

Micah works for AKM but is considered the renegade of the bunch--he won't follow orders and goes solo most of the time. When he loses his mate and goes off the grid for a few weeks, most of his department is thankful for the quiet. Sam is on the run from her abusive husband and off-grid is a survival necessity. She doesn't like stripping but, she no longer has the Army, and they pay cash. When she hears what sounds like a gang beating up someone, she has to save the guy. But a good deed never goes unpunished. Micah realizes that Sam's act of bravery may have saved his life, but she just put hers in harms way. The vampires are the good guys and police the world against the drecks, in this vampire series. Once you figure out the terminology, major players, and rules of their world things are easy to follow. The characters are built well enough to like and there is enough variety in the plot to stay engaged during the whole book. However, there was so much more that could have been done, and I'm hoping those things will be picked up in subsequent books. The sex scenes are good, and there is one full M/M scene between two supporting characters. This was a good start to another vampire series hit. - Alicia Devereaux Reviews

I absolutely fell in love with this book. Micah's character draws you in from the beginning and never lets you go. A real page turner. Looking forward to all the other characters in the series books.

It was 190 pages on my nook. The main characters were awsome especially the strong female lead. The supporting characters frustrated me.They were all supposed to work as a team but when the main character does some odd stuff there was always a fight instead of trying to find out what was going on. The bad guys were lacking and easily disposed. They did not cause the amount of chaos that I like to see from a villian. It was more of bruised ego wanting revenge type of scenario. Very straight to the point. No complicated plot twist. I gave the book 3 stars because it was easy to predict and it reminded me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Just to let future readers of this author know. This book has gay references and the other books in this series as well. This author is a very good writer. Her plots and characters are great. But if you don't want to read a m/m love/sex story, then don't bother reading this series.

Book was ok, but all male intimacy is not my thing. I prefer the J.R. Ward books.

i have a mixed review of this book. I think the main story was good but I must warn readers that it has strong language, gay situations, and rough sex--not what I expected from reading the other reviews.

I have to say, I loved this book and the books that have followed thus far.  You should have an open mind going into it though.  I have noticed some people are complaining about the gay scene.  Well I hate to burst your bubble boys and girls but the next book has more.  I have recommended this book to many people I know and they have loved it as well.  If it makes you uncomfortable to read about gays/bi then maybe this isn't the book for you but the love that's carried in the words really touch my heart and make the girl in me looking for mister right sigh in bliss.

Super pissed that there wasn't some warning about this book having bisexual and gay content in it, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased it. Won't read anything from this author again.

A wonderful addition to the paranormal genre. Micah and Sam are wonderfully meant for each other but must pass through their own versions of hell to get to the point where they belong to each other. All the kings men deserve their own book as they are all fascinating characters.

Rise of the Fallen was my introduction to the work of Donya Lynne and I am so glad I found her. I was drawn in immediately by the suffering of Micah and knew I couldn't stop reading until I knew where things led for him. When Sam comes into the story with her kick ass, offer no apologies personality, I was drawn in even further and held on for the ride. Micah and Sam's story is filled with action and passion and the way Donya includes the other characters is fantastic. Can't wait to have more of the All The King's Men series.

Got this as a free read and immediately fell in love with it. Soon as I finished the first book, I bought the second one and will likely buy the rest of the series. Glad I stumbled onto a new author to love.

Man, these vamps are HOT! Micah is an all male Alpha who has recently been devastated by his mate leaving him. To mate with a vampire doesn't always require it to be both sided! Micah can't deal with his pain any longer and wants to end it all. He makes arrangements with his enemies for them to do it and to let him be at peace. Along comes Sam. Not only does she stop them from killing him but she gives him a reason to live. There are so many fantastic characters in this book I don't know where to start. I love Micah and Sam. I'm glad to see Micah come out the other side. But I want to know more about Tristan and Josie, Sev and Ari and I definitely NEED to know more about Trace. If you want a hot paranormal romance with a rocking crew, then look no further! * Verified Purchase on Amazon * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

Interesting first book in a series. This was an enjoyable read in a lot of ways. Good plot with interesting twists, unusual characters also with interesting twists, and a writer who knows how to tell a story. The supporting characters definitely catch enough attention to merit follow-on books. The one thing, not a deal-breaker for me, was making the characters vampires. It's certainly the writer's perogative to change the classic rules of what a vampire is. But in this case these vampires seem to have more human characteristics than they have vampire traits. Other than some paranormal abilities, vampirism is really just a side-note. The author could just as well have defined the group by making them all blonds.

The beginning was a little rocky, and I didn't like the fact that so many times throughout the story I felt like I had skipped a previous book, but I will enjoyed it. It could be better, but it certainly wasn't bad

197 pages. Can be read as a stand-alone (but you'll want to read the rest of the series because you'll be very interested in the side characters/stories). Very Hot Sex. I loved the story and appreciated the main relationship not going back and forth, back and forth. The bad guys got what was coming to them and there was a HEA ending. There is some M/M action but the main love story is M/F. I loved all the relationships though. There was a bit of kinky dom/sub stuff but not much. All in all, I thought it was good writing and a great story. There were a few editing mistakes but the book wasn't littered with it. Good stuff.
