The residents of a small town learn that the secret to immortality is murder.

Welcome to Anderson. It's quiet here and that's how we like it. Except....

Madge Duffy sliced her husband's throat last week. Thought she'd killed him, but then he strolled right out of the morgue without a scratch.

The new preacher's calling it a "miracle," but I don't know. It isn't right.

I think there might be other people coming back, too.

Deputy Haws has got a bullet hole in his one good shirt, and he won't talk about how it got there.

Then there's that gang of kids that hangs around the reservoir. Not one of them can look you in the eye without breaking into a cold sweat. They're keeping a secret, and it's got them all on edge.

Something's going on in this town of ours, something that makes your skin crawl and your teeth grind in the night. I don't know what it is, but I know this:

It scares me.

NOTE: Contains profanity, violence, no explicit sex.

ALSO by Jan Strnad: ONE LAST TIME. Love, revenge, reconciliation, murder... everything is possible when the dead return to visit the living "one last time."

Editorial Reviews

This is a superbly written horror story. I wonder why its author is not as successful as King and Koontz. In my opinion, he is just as good of a writer, if not better. I'm a huge fan of Peter Straub's "Ghost Story," which is the best novel involving ghosts I have ever read. While trying to find another great ghost story, I came across this novel. I had doubts I would like it but have been very, very pleasantly surprised.

Writing from my nookc color, so will not make this too long. This was a fun piece. It starts slow but builds until it is at a loud crescendo. Do not expect your average zombie story. These are finer zombies that probably do not even think of themselves as bad. However, one must remember that these are smalltown churchgoers. They can get pushy. When you can see rotting blood and moaning, you know to run. How do you know when to run when your good friend just knocks on the door. There is a great cast of characters in here. Once you get past the beginning, this book is more than worth it.

This is a very entertaining book. The story is well put together and suspenseful. Right up there with some of the best in this genre. If you like Koontz you will like this book.
