Overview

Meet your local farmer! Published for the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s September 1609 journey along the river that today bears his name, this fascinating illustrated portrait celebrates the local farms—and farmers—in one of the country’s most scenic and storied regions, once known as the Breadbasket of America. Hudson River Valley Farms brings to life the renaissance of food producers who have developed the region as a source of artisanal cheeses, grass-fed beef, and first-rate organic fruits and vegetables. Stunning photography and short, evocative essays take you on a rare, behind-the-scenes journey to forty-four farms from Westchester County to the Capital District of Albany, and include the colorful maverick entrepreneurs behind the striking scenery. The book also includes a directory of nearly 100 local farmers’ markets, directions to the featured farms, and an introduction by the region’s popular U.S. Congressman, Maurice Hinchey.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
It's been 400 years since Henry Hudson sailed up the river that now bears his name. Many things have changed, but the region is still the picture of nature's abundance. In Hudson River Journey, author Joanne Michaels and professional photographer Rich Pomerantz (Wild Horses) use their respective skills to profile 44 farms, from Rockland and Westchester counties to the outskirts of Albany. With its directory of nearly 100 local farmers' markets, Hudson River Valley Farms isn't just a fertile pictorial of rural industriousness; it's a breadbasket resource you can use.
From the Publisher
"In a world doubling its population every three decades these farmers are seeking and finding answers."—Pete Seeger

    Beautiful Book

I am probably a little too biased, because my husband runs one of the farms that are featured in the book, but the book is beautiful and I will be purchasing more as gifts for our family! Its so nice to see and learn about the many farms in the surrounding areas. The photos are beautiful!!
