Overview

Eighteen year old Dirk Glover and his parents arrived in America in 1851 on the way to the California gold fields to earn money to save their family estate in Scotland. He loses his parents to a raging plague of cholera. Within weeks, his benefactor, John Barrow, is also dead. He was critically wounded by one of three outlaws that had his cabin under siege in their search for John's brother, Alfred, and his little daughter, Nancy.

Alfred and Nancy had left California with a huge amount of gold and three outlaws on their trail to rob them. Alfred evaded his pursuers long enough to leave Nancy and the gold with Indians somewhere along the trail and had proceeded on to engage John's help.

Before John died, he asked Dirk to go find his little niece, Nancy. Dirk surreptitiously left the cabin after dark with the outlaws in hot pursuit. He made new friends along the trail, and together, they fought their way to Nancy against great odds. When they finally rescued Nancy, she wasn't the little girl Dirk had been hunting. She was a beautiful and beguiling young lady that captivated his heart.
