Best text on Chaucer for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

One of the two outstanding texts in my library - the other being the Riverside Shakespeare. A must read for those who will major in English Literature and Criticism, but a book for all people who enjoy reading for pleasure and wanting to know more about the past and individuals working with the social and political culture of its time. Chaucer, as Shakespeare in his time, wrote about people and how they coped (or not) with love, religion, justice, Trouth, (truth), jealously, power (political and between the sexes), loss, even feminism (for this read The Wife of Bath), courtly love (was it real or fantasy), death and rebirth. A must read - from the CT to his other writing like his Dream Visions, in which he excelled, as Shakespeare would excell some 200 years later with his plays and sonnets.

Necessity for Study of Medieval Literature

_The Riverside Chaucer_ is essential for anyone who plans to pursue academic study of late Medieval Literature. This the official source for academic work on Chaucer (necessary for citing) and it basically provides everything Chaucer wrote in its Middle English form with notes.
