Roaches In The Attic - Non-Retrieval (original version) [NOOK Book]

Overview

The job was supposed to be simple; drop off the small squad of Space Marines, wait for them to check up on the outpost, and head back home. Airman Douglas found the reality to be much more unsettling; shortly after landing, the shuttle vanished, leaving them stranded with no sign of the outpost, and with the paranoid and ruthless Sergeant Renquist in charge, things were bound to get much worse.

Meet the Author

Greetings, reader. My pen name is Raymond Towers, and I am Hispanic generally, and Chicano specifically. I was born on the second day of June, in the year of 1970, in San Diego, California, and for the greater majority of my life I have called San Diego my home. I have been writing... well, forever. Ever since I could hold a writing instrument, and read a book of fiction, I knew that I wanted to be a professional writer. Alas, I was not ready, and not until my fortieth year did I finally have the time and the energy to commit to the craft.

I am ready now. Let me take you by the hand, and let us soar to places you are familiar with, or to places you've never before imagined. Let me show you what I've seen with my eyes, what I've dreamt of and envisioned, and what my imagination, experience and wisdom has conjured up for the two of us. I have many, many grand stories to tell you.

Most of my titles have adult content. If necessary, adjust the adult content filter to view them.

    No experience.

Anyone with any type of military experience will cringe throughout this book. Improper use of military terms and dialog used only in the cheesiest movies ruins this read

    Do your homework

A decent read. But, if the author is going to use Marines as characters, he needs to learn a little more about them. For instance, Marines hate to be called soldiers, and certainly would never refer to themselves that way. This, and other mistakes like it, detract from the pleasure of reading this story.

    Retrieve this....

Nice action tale, with a moral..sort of a Starship Troopers meets Avatar...without the preachy-ness of the latter. Not any new territory covered in this freebie, but it was very enjoyable. I recommend this author's work.

Good story. Moved well. Technically poor. -Town Crier

A good space bug story. Only problems are the poor discipline exhibited by the entire protagonist group, and the lack of tech equality; i.e teleporting ships, but the soldiers' gear is, for the most part, not much better, or even worse than the end of the twentieth century. The author needs to do a bit more research on proper military protocal and discipline, and to think through his future tech to avoid such glaring incosistancies.

    Well done

Definitely worth reading if you like sci-fi. A few typos near the end, but in general, well written.

    OORAH!!!

What a great sci-fi story! It's a story about war, life on another planet, alien lifeforms, comraderie and courage under fire. Combat either brings out the worst or the best of the combatants. This is about the best. I recommend this story highly.

    PRETTY GOOD FOR BEING FREE

Non-Retrieval is a sci-fi action novella of about 314 pages. It's light, kinda cheesy at times, but an overall good read.

    Short Bug-hunt

This is mostly an action novel. It is pretty short and reads quickly, so it doesn't overstay its welcome despite being relatively shallow. Worth giving a shot if you are into what I sort of think of as the Vietnam era mil scifi genre.

    Veey good

This is a suprisingly good book. The only reason I had gotten it in the first place was because Astra was so freaken good, and it was free. So i decided to try this one out. It turned out to be very good. I would rate it with the Vampire Earth series, if the author made sequal or two. Very good.

    more from this reviewer

    Space Marines Get Bugged!

"Non-Retrieval" is a fast-paced sci-fi action tale featuring a contingent of space marines hopelessly outnumbered and besieged by intelligent, roach-like insectile life forms on an alien world. With elements recalling "Starship Troopers," "Non-Retrieval" is well-written and a real page-turner!
