Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Susan Hepler
Using photographs in scrapbook fashion, the author has created an overview of this popular author's life that is perfectly suitable for an audience of his youngest readers. Dahl is shown working in his writing hut, with his children, and in early jobs in a variety of locations. Artwork by Quentin Blake selected from their joint book projects, the photographs, and modest amounts of text give this book an inviting look. An index and a table of dates important to Dahl are appended, but no list is provided of his works for children or reference to his many works for adults. An excellent introduction to Dahl as well as encouragement to read his other books, this volume is a welcome addition to books such as the "Meet the Author series (published by R. C. Owen) about authors and their work aimed at the lower end of elementary school. Older readers will want to check out Dahl's autobiographies, Boy and Going Solo.
