Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Although commercial photographer Farber is best known for his nude and fashion photographs, his eighth coffee-table book contains neither. Instead, it is a compilation of 90 color and black-and-white photographs from across the country celebrating 35 years of work. Images range from a detailed view of tailfin on a Cadillac in Arizona to a solemn diner parking lot in Massachusetts to a thoughtful cowboy on a horse in Montana. The book is divided into four sections ("Departure," "The Passage Through," "Arrival," and "Return"), each kicking off with a very brief poetic introduction. Although the organization and the text help guide the viewer through Farber's work, the grainy, dreamlike photos could well stand on their own without explanation. The last pages are devoted to a thumbnail index of the book's photographs. The thumbnails are accompanied by mundane descriptions of the photographs' locations and circumstances as well as more interesting technical information about cameras, films, and printing techniques. Recommended for academic libraries and large public libraries with photography collections.-Valerie Nye, New Mexico State Lib., Santa Fe Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
