After seeing 'Braveheart' and reading some accounts of Robert the Bruce online, I wanted to learn more. This is the most accurate and well-written resource I have found. The author gives full detail of the the problems with the Scottish succession leading to the struggle against Edward 'Longshanks.' He also recounts episodes more exciting than any swashbuckling novel, and illuminates some of the inaccuracies popularized by Hollywood and Sir Walter Scott. This account gives Bruce, Douglas, and Randolph their proper place alongside Wallace as heroes of Scotland's War for Independence. A must read for enthusiasts of Scotland's history.
