Overview

1988's Rock Hard EP, and the 1989 soundboard recording Live Nymphomania were the last officially released Pandoras recordings before songwriter and lead vocalist Paula Pierce passed away due to a brain aneurysm in 1991. A huge step away from the band's original paisley underground sound of the early '80s, this lineup was the latest in a series of personnel shifts as well. Rock Hard and Live Nymphomania are the girl group answer to the hair metal scene of Los Angeles in the last part of the '80s. Bassist Kim Shattuck and keyboard player Melanie Vammen later formed the Muffs. As snotty hard rock, both these records held their weight and wear their age well, unlike a lot of the music of the period. With in-your-face guttersnipe sexuality snarling to the sound of trashy guitars and a primitive thudding drum kit, both these records become one piece and are recommended to fans of the garage metal aesthetic.
