Overview

Madacy's Rock On '70s series is a low-priced roundup of popular songs from each year of the decade. The songs are wide-ranging and, although they seem thrown together with little regard to context or pacing, do a fairly good job of recreating what 45 minutes or so of listening to a decent AM station would have been like. The 1972 volume contains a good mix of soul (Luther Ingram's "If Loving You Is Wrong," Joe Tex's "I Gotcha"), soft rock (Todd Rundgren's "I Saw the Light," America's "Horse With No Name"), and silly novelty songs (Chuck Berry's "My Ding-a-Ling," Hot Butter's "Popcorn"). The disc is a bit on the skimpy side, however, certainly too much so to be considered an essential purchase. Perhaps a '70s neophyte with a limited budget could make some use of it.
