Overview

Working for a cranky, old hermit in an isolated house sounds like Ruby’s idea of heaven – but her boss isn't quite what she expects.

Tex is a fugitive from the rock and roll world – a tragedy abruptly halted his career. No one knows why he quit, no one knows where he is.

The two of them live in the same house, avoiding each other, until Tex screws up, endangering their lives and forcing them to move into close quarters. Suddenly, the idea of human contact seems more appealing, if only with each other. The sanctuary they have built is enough for Ruby -- the man she grows to love is Tex the hermit, not Tex the rock star -- but the outside world encroaches.

She thinks their fledgling love can’t shine brighter than the rock dream but can Ruby bear to let Tex go?

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. "Screw you," she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She's seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She's seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

Here we go again. Another author dividing one book into 3 separate books just to make a couple of extra $$$. I'll be glad when this fad is over. This book is only a little over 150 pages.

An ok book in my opinion. No graphic sex scenes in this book. Probably would have been better if there was a little bit of hot and steamy parts. But overall not a bad book. DID NOT LIKE THE SECOND BOOK AT ALL.

I couldn't get enough. This author is new to me, but not for long. Cannot wait to read the others.

The story of Tex and Ruby. Ruby has been pushed out of the warm loving embrace of her parents' home as they run off to live in Bali for a while.  She's a bit of a recluse, holing up inside the house, writing programming for her own little apps -  not apps that she markets and such - because she wants nothing to do with dealing with other people.  She writes the apps for herself,  and is happy if a few people happen to find them and buy them. She finds an ad on Craigslist to be a housekeeper for what she assume is an old guy.  She takes the job, happy that doesn't want to deal with her at all.  This will leave her free time to work on her apps. The house is terrifyingly scary - like the creepy place from Pyscho.  She continues on inside, and finds the place a literal health hazard. When she thinks a burglar has come in, she meets the 'old guy'.  Turns out, he's not old, but a hot guy!  A hot guy that used to be a big rock star.  Still, he wants nothing to do with seeing her/talking to her, and she agrees.  Only one night she smells smoke.  Tex has been drinking and smoking and --oops, catches the house on fire.  She saves him, and he is so forlorn, she can't help but stick around with him when he begs her. The story that follows is both heartbreaking and maddening!  Many times, I wanted to shake Tex! The entire story is told from the first person perspective of Ruby, so I did miss getting to know Tex through his thoughts.  Tex can totally ignore people and shut down and get angry at the drop of a hat, but he is a true artist.  Though I got really angry at him, I also fell for him.  I understand how Ruby couldn't leave him despite some of his most maddening of ways and moods. I enjoyed Ruby a ton.  Her 'I can hole up in the house for the rest of my life and be happy' idea sounds like heaven to me (at times!).  I had absolutely NO idea that this story was the first part of -unsure how many - and wanted to scream when the story ended!  How dare the author do this to me?!  Make me pine away for Tex and give me such a wonderful story, only to leave me hanging!!! Needless to say, I'll be anxiously awaiting the second book!  HURRY! Romance Readers received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
