Overview

By night, Brian Johnson sings in the biggest rock 'n' roll band on the planet. But by day, AC/DC's frontman drives balls to the wall.

When he was a young boy growing up in a working-class English town, Brian developed what would become a lifelong passion for cars, trolling junkyards and even pretending to drive the family car. From there, he steamed up the windows of his old Mini Cooper as a teenager, spent untold time in hygienically challenged tour buses, was chauffeured in leather-trimmed limos, and raced cars to a checkered flag.

Featuring guest stars Cliff Williams, Malcolm and Angus Young, and many, many others—even Arnold Schwarzenegger—Rockers and Rollers is a tribute to Brian's obsession with four wheels. By turns surprising, poignant, funny, and maybe a little bit bawdy, these are the stories of a man who drives as hard as he rocks.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
It's surprisingly refreshing that Johnson's lively memoir basically has little to do with writing about life with AC/DC—it's really all about cars. The working-class singer was beginning a successful auto repair business when he joined AC/DC in 1980, and he still remains a gearhead at heart as well as an accomplished racecar driver and auto collector. In each of his more than 90 short and speedy chapters, Johnson offers personal vignettes and expert opinions about the many cars that he has loved and lost. You don't need to know anything about AC/DC to appreciate his funny and highly descriptive writing about everything from the Lotus Cortina Mk1 ("a brick with wheels") and the Citroen Maserati SM ("a beautiful creation that came straight from Hell") to the Rolls-Royce Phantom ("2.5 tons of hand-built sex, with a 7.2 BMW engine with twelve funnels of fun" and the Mini ("the Beatles of motorcars"). Chapter One

As I finish writing this exercise in fun and self-indulgence, I can
only think that we, the generations of people from the 1920s till now
and probably the next thirty years, we are the ones who drove cars,
real cars. We are the ones who rode in the steam and diesel trains;
some of us were lucky enough to fly in Concorde, to listen to the
growl of a V8 Chevy engine, the purr of a Ferrari. We are the ones
who could watch cars and motorcycles racing against each other and
not feel like criminals. We are the ones who could still get speeding
tickets, impress girls with our cars first and penis engineering
afterwards.
Someone picking this up in 2050 might be being transported in
God knows what, some grass-powered hybrid. We have been the
lucky generations. And that's why every new car, every turn of the
ignition key, is a new baby to me. It's what man's made out of nature.
It's rock 'n' roll.
Do I like cars?!

    Got the book today ....signed!

Brian is just the real deal. A legend, but a man who is do down to earth, and genuinely funny. Read the whole thing between waiting on line, the train home and finishing after dinner. Funny book and recommend if you are fan of the band or like interesting tidbits on various differnt cars and his experinces with them.
