Workin’ up a hot, sticky sweat is pure pleasure with a hard-ridin’ cowboy…or two.
Struggling stock contractor Gemma Jansen swallows her pride and tracks down circuit rider Cash Big Crow to offer him a job managing her ranch. Cash agrees on one condition: theirs won’t be strictly a working relationship. She’s the boss during the day, but once she’s corralled in the bedroom, Cash calls the shots. Despite concerns about their age difference, Gemma consents.
Cash suspects the sexy widow hides an untapped wild streak. He intends to loosen her tightly held reins of control—even if he has to break out his horsewhip to do it.
But Cash is in for a surprise. Gemma proves a rough and ready participant in any leather-n-lace game Cash dreams up.
Between riding herd on his wayward daughter, Macie, and rowdy cowboy Carter McKay doggin’ Macie’s every boot step, Cash struggles to hide his true feelings for Gemma – except this time, Gemma’s grabbed the bull by the horns and she’s playing for keeps.
Summer’s going to be a hot one at the Bar 9.

I enjoyed this book because it was laced with HOT SEX and was actually able to keep a story line at the same time. So not only could I not wait to read the sex scene it also kept my interest on other levels. And to those who don't like the sex scenes........."Why are you reading these kind of books then???"

James is able to nicely weave the two stories of Gemma & Cash, and Carter & Macie. Its has more romance that that other books in the series, but still tons of steamy sex scenes to get your blood pumping.

I love this series already. The way she writes it keeps you reading and lets you really get to know the characters, the way they act and feel feels real. And although the sex is very HOT the story is better. You will fall in love with all the McKay family and just keep reading. It also has just enough kink in it that the sex is new and exciting every time. You will love this book and be excited to read the next!! Enjoy, I did!!

Most of the story was about Macie and Carter (a McKay). When Macie's father sort of cancels their vacation plans to work for women that he has been eyein' for some time Macie runs into Carter a ranch hand on Gemma's ranch. Macie's father hooks up with Gemma while Macie hooks up with Carter (an artist) but is not very skilled in relationships. Macie's father is not the tiniest bit please that his little girl has hooked up with one of the infamous McKay boys known for the sexual prowess. Needless to say the story has quite a bit of turbulence and is a fantastic read.

Liked it as part of the series but not as a stand alone book. I have a little different perspective because I read this as the last book in the series (so far). The stories get stronger as the series goes along and there is A LOT less porn sex in the later books. This book is okay and a good time filler till the next book. I recommend the series and this as part of it.

Why are some books so sexually explicit? It's porn people and that is not healthy. Look at our society, we treat sex like a sport. Some things are meant to be private some arthors go to far. It's ashame you have an audience that wants that.

A series of sexual encounters undertaken by people who are more than awful. That any of these characters get an HEA makes my blood boil. Although, come to think of it, maybe they all deserve each other.

Three stars is a stretch. Just what I said above. The Rough Rider series is well-enough-put-together (meaning no typos or obvious grammatical errors) that it can be enjoyed for the mindless, pop-corn reading that it is. It works its way through the McKay family one by one... the McKay family being largely populated by wildly handsome incredibly horny and hunky men with just enough sensitivity to have appeal to us women who need some easy entertainment. There's absolutely nothing socially redeeming or self-improvement seeking about them. A fairly enjoyable, titillating, complete waste of time.

I really loved the characters in this book. Lorelei James has a real talent for creating wonderful characters and weaving an enticing story. You fall in love with the people and get caught up in this story, of course, the sex is really hot, but to be honest, the story is so good it really doesn't need the hot sex, it adds to the story, don't get me wrong, but it's a strong storyline on it's own and very entertaining.

Lorelei James has a real steaming winner with this series; one is better than the next. This one was one great start to the series along with #1. I liked many of the scenes without it being too raunchy although I'm not into menage. I've read them all and I'm now reading #12 - WOW!!!

This was a parallel love story between 2 sets of lovers, which I have to admit doesn't usually work for me. At times, I wasn't sure which story was primary and which was supporting. For that reason I usually don't like when 2 stories are crammed into one book. In most books that do this, you're left feeling bereft that one story isn't complete. BUT Ms. James made it work seamlessly here; because of the father/daughter relationship plot between Cash and Macie, all 4 characters meshed well and it worked as one story. Love this series and can't read each book fast enough.
