Rojotangoby Erwin Schrott
Soon after, while still in his early twenties,/i>
One of the most exciting singers of our time, bass-baritone Erwin Schrott is universally regarded as today’s finest exponent of the major Mozart roles of Don Giovanni, Leporello, and Figaro. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Erwin Schrott made his operatic debut at the age of twenty-two as Roucher in Andrea Chenier.
Soon after, while still in his early twenties, he debuted and triumphed in major opera houses around the world including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Paris Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, Salzburg Festival, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and many others.
If today’s opera audience is getting younger, Erwin Schrott is one of the main reasons as his combination of Hollywood looks, genuine charisma and a magnificent voice will keep audiences talking about his performances for many years to come.
This highly personal album has great significance for Erwin. He chose to collaborate with Astor Piazzolla’s former pianist Pablo Ziegler, who not only plays piano on the album, but also provides both authentic musical arrangements, as well as his own original compositions.
The imaginative and intriguing repertoire features a varied and exciting selection of passionate tangos by Astor Piazzolla, Pablo Ziegler, and Juan Carlos Cobian, as well as a number of evocative Argentinean and Brazilian folk songs.
Rojotango promises to reveal new facets of Erwin’s sensuously dark, chocolaty voice. This album will appeal to opera fans and genuine fans of tango nuevo. From the Label
