Overview

A delicious, sexy, laugh-out-loud modern romance about a newly single woman and her journey to find love again, from New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton and debut author Nina Bocci.

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man—the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

Roman Crazy is majorly RomCom ChickLit. If you like chick flicks and romantic comedies when choosing a movie, this is definitely a book for you. Although I have no idea what it’s like to be super wealthy or just hop on a plane out of the country, I liked those parts. This allowed the reader to experience so many gorgeous things. Italy has been one of my top two dream destinations for years, and this story only made me want to go there more. I loved experiencing everything through Avery, especially the way she left her cheating husband and ran into an old flame. Everything in Rome is über romantic. Stylish fashion, wonderful friends, beautiful art and delicious food are abundant, and love is totally in the air.

Roman Crazy did not disappoint! It was full of the beautiful life of Rome, the best of friendships, and a love like no other. I was drawn to Roman Crazy because I have been to Italy many times and I think it is an ideal location to set a romantic story in, plus I am a huge fan of Alice Clayton and was very excited to read another book of hers. I appreciate the way the authors made light of Avery going through a divorce, with her mother-in-law, and keeping up appearances. Since this is a romantic comedy, I did not feel weighed down by something that usually has us curled in the fetal position. The story did not feel rushed given their history and honestly, I loved the minimal conflict in the book. It was refreshing to just simply have a love story about a man and a great city. I kept expecting more twist and turns but was simply a fun read that went by too fast. The only thing I think this book is missing is an epilogue. I see that this will be part of a series, and I hope we find out more about Marcello and Avery’s HEA. No spoilers, but there are a few hints in the last chapters that might suggest what the future holds and when it wasn’t not uncovered in the last few pages, I was disappointed and needed more.

Roman Crazy is a super cute novel that will take you on an adventure through Rome. We get to explore Rome through the eyes of Avery as she wanders the streets, sampling pastries, and painting the beautiful scenery and buildings. We also get front row seats to her re-kindling romance with Marcello, the man she loved and left behind in Barcelona so many years ago. There’s not a lot of heavy stuff that takes place in this novel. It’s actually just a light and sweet romance that has the backdrop of Rome. However, I really enjoyed seeing Rome through Avery’s eyes as she began to experience life again after a stifling marriage. Speaking of Avery, I really liked her character. Even though she kind of lost herself in her marriage, it was wonderful seeing her spread her wings and find the passion in life. She starts to do volunteer work at her friend’s company where she gets to restore artifacts, she starts painting again, and you see her begin to laugh more and more as the story unfolds. Although, that has a lot to do with Marcello. :fans herself: Marcello was definitely the perfect guy. The moment he sees Avery again you see everything just sort of stop. Neither thought they’d see the other but when they reunite, sparks fly. They sort of test the waters to see where they stand with the other and then they come together and fit perfectly. I just loved reading about these two and their adventures together. While there isn’t a whole heck of a lot that takes place in Roman Crazy, it was still a really enjoyable read. It was perfect for a night where I just wanted something light and sweet to read. There was no crazy drama, no suspense, or even any real conflict. It was just a nice romance that took the reader on a trip to Rome.

Roman Crazy is book one in The Broads Abroad series. I adore Alice Clayton's work so I knew I had to grab this book immediately. I wound up getting the audiobook and ending up falling in love with most of this story. I felt like I actually took a trip to Rome while listening which tells you how great the tiny details are that the authors included. We start off with a bang, our leading lady, Avery Bardot finds her husband cheating on her with his assistant. She decides she's had enough, she plans on divorcing him and getting out of there so she isn't convinced to stay. Naturally, she calls her BFF Daisy to spill the details and vent and the next thing she knows she's heading to Rome to stay with Daisy and just figure out her life. And I feel this book is exactly that, it's Avery being a woman forced to deal with life changes and roll with the punches. Her character grows so much and it was great to see as the story progressed. So this wouldn't be a romance without a love interest. While out one night, Avery and Daisy are meeting up with Daisy's work friends and Avery's world pretty much stops. One of the guys there happens to be the one that got away, and Avery views this as a sign. Marcello Bianchi is an Italian hunk that melted my heart. They quickly start hanging out and then full on dating and I really enjoyed seeing Avery's character blossom as it progressed. The only thing I didn't like about this book really was that Avery was cheating. I know, she's going to get a divorce, but she hasn't yet so I still view it as cheating. If you're not fond of that type of thing steer clear. I mostly was able to overlook it but it did bother me. Otherwise, I loved this book and it gave me a serious case of wanderlust. If you're a fan of travel type contemporary romances, you have to pick this book up. With amazing characters and a well fleshed out world, Roman Crazy is a must read.

What a great book. I've read and enjoyed Alice Clayton's work already, but haven't read any of Bocci's. What I can say after reading Roman Crazy is that having them write together was a great idea. While I don't have an example of Bocci's solo work to compare, I can tell there's a seamless writing style here. I know Clayton can do well-written characters and comedy. With this book, there's some amazing setting descriptions in there too. Not sure which author's responsible for that, but I want more. Italy was brought alive in this book. Along with the setting, the story on its own kept me turning page after page. It's the story of a second chance romance, as well as Avery finding herself. A coming-of-age of sorts after years of losing track of what made her happy. Having both these elements mixed in with the setting, the foods, and the overall atmosphere blew me away. I'm hoping these two authors continue to work together. They seem to make a great team. Though, I'll definitely keep my eyes open for any new solo work for either author. They're both talented, and Roman Crazy is evidence enough of that.

Let me start off with a warning: You cannot read this book unless your fridge is stocked with sweets. Honestly. I blame the authors for the five pounds I gained while reading this book. Roman Crazy had me googling different pastries from Rome every five minutes- I literally wanted to move to Rome after the third search. Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci are an amazing duo. Roman Crazy was the perfect touch of funny, sexy and romantic. It made me want to fall in love, travel the world and eat every single flaky pastry that exists in Rome. I want a best friend that is as wonderful as Daisy and don’t even get me started on Marcello. Marcello was so sweet and just picturing the way he looked and how he sounded when he said 'tesoro' or 'Avery' had me just about swooning. I love second chance romances so much and books like this are honestly the reason why. The characters hadn't seen each other in YEARS and yet when they decided to put the past in the past, it was like they were never apart. They fit together perfectly and they have this amazing understanding of each others passions. Marcello tried to deny his feelings at first and although he made a valiant effort, it was no use. Avery was his "one that got away" and watching them reconnect like they had never lost touch made my heart soar. This entire book made my heart soar and made me long for an adventure. I absolutely loved it and I would honestly recommend this to you guys. *Disclaimer: A Review Copy was kindly was provided to Reads By Rose by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. 4 Stars for Roman Crazy! Roman Crazy is a second chance romance that is sweet, funny and sexy. This is a sizzling debut for the writing team authors Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci. What did I love? I loved that this story takes place in Italy. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect setting for romance. Avery Bardot escapes to Rome to get away from her soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston. For the past 9 years Avery has been the perfect wife. She gave up her dreams to help her husband fulfill his career dreams. As her marriage comes to an end Avery’s future is uncertain but her best friend Daisy has the perfect solution – visit her in Rome and take a break from her troubles. Rome turns out to be just what Avery needed – the support from Daisy, the city re-ignites her passion for art, and the reunion with her first love Marcello. I also loved that this story had the right mix of humor, tender moments and romance. Daisy is a crazy best friend but also gives Avery solid advice for her future and love life. Marcello is a sexy Italian architect who made me laugh at his misspoken American lingo and also made me swoon at his romantic gestures. What didn’t I like? I am torn between liking and disliking Avery. This book is written in her POV so most of the time is spent with her inner struggle and keeping her secrets. It drove me crazy at times her lack of honesty and it made the story drag. But seeing Avery take control of her life changed my opinion of her. Despite my issues with Avery I did enjoy Roman Crazy. I took my time reading this book because I didn’t want it to end. The writing flowed smoothly so it is hard to believe this was written by two authors. I love Alice Clayton’s books so it was great to see her signature style of humor. I feel this was an impressive debut for author Nina Bocci. I look forward to reading more from these authors.

Been to Rome many times, and was impressed with the authors' ability to bring the reader into the real atmosphere of Rome. The characters were complex and authentic; the storyline flowed beautifully. I read it in one sitting - I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend this book, and looking forward to the next book in the series. Really enjoyed reading this book.

What can I say Clayton and Bocci duo are a force to be reckon with, what an amazing novel. You will feel like you are in Rome and experiencing everything, from the sightseeing to the food. It truly remained me a lot of the times I have been there and left me wanting to go back, but that is not all, the romance is beautifully written, a second chance love story, where Avery needs to get away from her cheating husband and make a trip to find herself, a story that will keep you emotionally on edge, during the entire book. Avery and Marcello chemistry is over the top and loved the funny parts so well know Alice Clayton from and now glad to read Nina’s writing, which made both authors a must read for me. Go get this book and enjoy a great read.

I’m moving to Rome now, but before I go, here is what I thought of Roman Crazy. Holy Hotness in Rome! Marcello stole the show and is now at the top of my list for book boyfriends. Italian, tall, dark, handsome, romantic and overall swoonworthy, that ladies is Marcello in a nutshell. Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton did a fantastic job at taking the reader on a tour of Rome. Through their writing you are transported to Rome right alongside Avery. You smell the aromas as they describe the pastries, coffee, cuisines and desserts. You see the art in your mind as they detail the pieces out for you. Second chance romances are my favorite. I loved Avery’s spunk, her wise cracks with her BFF and definitely how her character’s growth was written. This story is the perfect pick me up if you’re looking for a sweet, fun and mildly tense read. It was the perfect book to read while lounging in the sun. The moments between Marcello and Avery are sizzling and so romantic. I’m very excited to see that there is more coming for this series. Nina and Alice make a killer duo and I can’t wait for more. Ben Fatto!
