Romance

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Matt Collar
The three-disc anthology Romance compiles many of legendary jazz trumpeter/vocalist Chet Baker's most romantic recordings. These are cuts Baker recorded at the height of his career for the Pacific Jazz label during the '50s. While certainly romantic in tone, Baker often evinced more of a melancholy or poignant style, and these songs walk the line between romance and sadness. That said, Baker and his various groups played in a light, swinging style that is perfect for a romantic dinner or evening at home. Included are such songs as "My Funny Valentine," "My Ideal," "Embraceable You," and many others.
