In case you were wondering, Romanza is a pop album. But Andrea Bocelli is much more than a pop singer. He has serious opera training under his belt -- including studies with the legendary tenor Franco Corelli -- and his exceptionally expressive voice was extolled by none other than Luciano Pavarotti. Like many younger artists, Bocelli is equally at home with popular and classical styles. The lush and lyrical songs on Romanza have operatic overtones, but they're designed for crooning, not for shouting high C's. While some critics have complained that Bocelli's voice is unsuited for opera (a debate that will continue, no doubt, as his fame spreads), there's no question that he is the master of the Italian love song. The husky catch in his throat is just plain sexy, and he exudes pure emotion -- ripping into these heart-aching songs like he really means it.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Romanza is designed to break Andrea Bocelli into the American market, not only to the European audience (most of the album is in Italian), but also the English-speaking mainstream pop audience (through the Sarah Brightman duet "Time to Say Goodbye"). The result is an accessible, well-crafted, and melodic pop record from a terrific operatic vocalist -- it's an album that very well could broaden his audience.

I absolutely love this CD. This man has a beautiful voice, every song is a treat to listen to. It's great for babies and small children as well. Whenever I put it on in the car, it lulls my kids right to sleep. I highy recommned it for long trips!

I have never purchased music of this sort before, I've missed out on a lot. Andrea sings wonderfully. So skip the rock, the pop, country and enjoy this special treat...I can't understand the words but the voice can't be beat, the melody is must purchase this. Favorite tracks number 1 and 9. Tom

Absolutely the best of Bocelli! Vivo Per Lei with Giorgia is awsome! She has a magnificent voice! You don't need to understand the language or even like opera to appreciate the music here! Very highly recommend!

Once upon a time, in 1998, I heard of Andrea Bocelli for the first time when I saw 'A Night in Tuscany' on PBS. I liked it, and I miss hearing this album, which I want to do again every day because it is tremendous, absolutely moving, and so is his sexy voice. God knows I can't have him, as he's married. Anyway, he ought to challenge the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Ricky Martin, the biggest excuses for the 'best' artists in the world. I'd love to see Andrea triumph over Michael Jackson once and for all. That's all, folks!

...but I have become totally out of control when it comes to Andrea Bocelli. I'm 17, a Puerto Rican New Yorker, and Mother loves this album as much as I do. Only Mother, she likes R&B a lot more. I, on the other hand, fell obsessed to the sexy, schmaltzy tone of his voice that...never mind. I'd love to see him do a music video, not to mention do an English-language recording. I also have all his other US releases, but because my Sarah Brightman collection is two going on three albums larger than my Andrea one, I'll have to get 'Il Mare Calmo Della Sera' and 'Bocelli,' his import releases if they are still in stock, just to complete it.

Too bad he's married, though. This is a wonderful album, because it used to be that a classical dude never used to be popular. At 17, I don't know how in the world I'd become so drawn to this truly remarkable singer overnight. I can't listen to this album, which I miss doing, very often because my sister hates opera and other forms of classical music. I don't, though.

I have never listened to this type of music before. Today I was with a friend driving in the mountains. We had this CD playing on the stereo. I was in heaven. I can't wait to get my own copy!

Much debate surrounds the operatic legitimacy of Andrea Boccelli, in this musical recording, Bocelli dispels many of his critic's notions. Romanzas is a contemporary musical endeavour that combines some of the musical roots of traditional operatic arias with the modern flare of popular music. Boccelli, displays an amazing vocal range when performing songs such as ''Per Amore (For Love)'', ''Macchine Da Guerra (Machine of War)'', the lyrically beautiful ''Vivo Per Lei (I Live For You)'', and a song that has become incredibly popular throughout the world, the melodic and lyrically beautiful, ''Con Te Partiro'', a song whose title literally means ''With You I Depart'', but whose title is unimportant for most listeners since the loveliness of this opus conveys to each listener a unique sense of imagery about what the song means. The fact that most of these songs are in Italian therefore enhances the listening pleasure that one derives from this CD. The listener truly is transcended to a point where the combination of Bocelli's virtuoso voice and a wonderful melody combine to form a perfect combination that one can appreciate in any language.

I actually bought this CD in Italy because I was fascinated when I first heard his songs. This CD is the best CD of my own collection and I strongly recommendate to people who have not heard Andrea sing.

I was drawn to this album and this artist partially because I am Italian, and mostly because I am a true romantic at heart. This labor of love can elicit such strong and passionate yearnings as to nearly require a parental warning. Listen to it with someone you love...or hope to love. Turn down the lights, light a fire and open your best bottle of wine. And let the rest just happen. You won't be disappointed. Bella, bella!

I am not a fan of this kind of music but I am a fan of Andrea Bocelli. I have this album because of ''Con Te Partito''. The first time I heard him sing this song on TV it brought tears to my eyes. The depth of this man's voice comes from deep within him that he makes me cry when he sings. I have had it for about 5 months now and listen to it daily. Now, my 5 year old daughter claims ''Con Te Partito'' as her song and sings right along with him. The whole album is awesome and grows on you. I played it at Christmas that friends had to have the album too! They didn't know who he they do! His voice is AWESOME and makes my soul sing too!

Andrea Bocelli is The Voice - the glory and splendour of his tone could be that of an angel, truly a gift from God that he is using greatly. Andrea is the King of Tenors. I had this CD for several months before I sat down and actually listened to it. I was struck down. I had other CD's of course, but this was the first pop one I had. I love it and I know that if you give it a chance you will love it as well. I especially like ''Con te partirò'' - the solo one, not so much the one with Brightman although that is lovely as well. I also love ''Rapsodia''. All the tracks are good though, simply because he sings them. He is the Midas of tenor music: anything that Andrea sings immediately becomes liquid gold, and the world is a better place because of his music.

I'm only 11 years old and I absolutly love this cd. I am Italian and love the romance language. ''vivo per lei'' is my favorite. Andrea Bocelli is a musical genious and if he can get an 11 yr old that is in love with n sync to take down her posters for him....then he is amazing.

If I could rate this CD with 100 stars, it would just come close to describing my enjoyment of Romanza. Bocelli's voice has a depth and resonance that transports you. This is the first Bocelli CD I've purchased. I look forward to hearing his other works.

I absolutely love EVERYTHING by Bocelli. Romanza is terrific, romantic, you'll find yourself singing along even if you don't understand what's you're saying. I strongly recommend it.

Wendi's post is great. This too was how I first found out about how great this person can sing. Time To Say Goodbye at the fountains and my girlfriend and I were hooked. I even called the hotel to get the name of the song and wrote it down to lose it and then find it again 3 months later. Now I can't get enough of his music. It's just so relaxing to listen too.

This guy is great, I've always loved Italian music because, well, Im Italian. When I first heard him sing the song "Con Te Partiro"(Which was on The Sopranos) I was hooked. So yesterday I picked it up, Great Stuff People!!

When I listen to this beautiful man, I am transported...his voice is sexy, strong and enriched with passion. I can envision myself pining for my lover in 'Con Te Partiro' or 'Vivo Per Lei'. I especially enjoy his duets with Giorgia and Sarah Brightman; he has the ability to meld his soul with these women. I've had Romanza for almost 2 years and it hasn't left my cd player. My 3 year old daughter even loves to listen to and hum along.

Romanza takes the listener to another place. Each selection allows one to appreciate the beautiful voice of Mr. Bocelli. This CD is great for unwinding after a long day in the office, great for a "a just because" moment and great as background music during a dinner party. I am sure anyone who is a fan of this genre, a fan of Andrea Bocelli or someone who just wants to listen to great music - "Romanza" is a must have in your music collection. Enjoy!!!!
