Overview

Baz Luhrmann's garish, flamboyant adaptation of Romeo + Juliet was hyper-kinetic and colorful, boasting a heavy inspiration from the visual style of MTV, so it's only appropriate that the soundtrack was tailored for the alternative nation that MTV fostered. Combining modern rock acts like Garbage, Radiohead, the Cardigans, and the Butthole Surfers with contemporary soul like Des'ree and adult alternative like Gavin Friday, the album is slick, polished, catchy -- and surprisingly strong. Though the soul and pop is good, the alternative rock acts on the soundtrack fare the best, with Garbage and Radiohead both contributing excellent B-sides ("Number One Crush" and "Talk Show Host," respectively), with the Cardigans' sleek, sexy lounge-disco number "Lovefool" stealing the show.

Baz Luhrman rocks!! So does this Sdtk. Can't say the same for the movie.... I loved the 1st track by garbage, and the 3rd track, Angel, and all of the tracks after the 7th, Lovefool, which I also loved. Great, Great, Great Soundtrack!!!! Fabulous to listen to when you are in a particularly melancholy mood.

I bought this soundtrack almost ten years after the movie came out, and never regretted it.I can't count how many times I have listened to it. It is a fantastic soundtrack. I love Everclear's "Local God"!! Great, great soundtrack.

Among my favourite of movie soundtracks (although I can't say too much for the movie itself), the R + J disc is a compliation with songs that fit almost every mood. There are the edgier rock; the dark and satirical; the mellow yet treacherous; the crooning and soulful; the sleek and upbeat; and the wonderfully hippish. Contemporary and beautiful.

I don't normally listen to this type of music... but this cd has music that anyone can enjoy. The music on this cd has the power to make you laugh and cry.

This soundtrack, along with the movie, are both truly unique. This soundtrack is full of great songs, of varying styles. There are love songs, rock, alternative, and songs to sing to. It's a great soundtrack, to accompany a great movie.

I loved this soundtrack! Garbage and The Butthole Surfers rocked! All of the songs fit in perfect with the movie. When I first went to see the movie i thought it would be alright but the way the wrote the movie as well as the soundtrack was unreal! This is one of my favs. in movie AND soundtrack.
