The Room

( 5 )

Overview

"Locked away in his remand cell, a small-time criminal surrenders himself to sadistic fantasies of hatred and despair. This follow-up to Selby's best-selling cult classic, Last Exit to Brooklyn, offers a bleakly claustrophobic descent into the mind of a man trapped inside a pitiless world, cut off from all love and compassion. Violent, sickening and disturbed, The Room is an unforgettable and deeply shocking novel by one of America's most visionary writers."--BOOK JACKET.

    Disturbing and heartbreaking

Well, this wasn't my first Hubert Selby book so I kind of knew what to expect. But I did not expect the book to be as great as it was. Yes, the book was very graphic but it paints a picture in your head as good as any other book I've read. I feel that Selby is a very under appreciated writer who has a talent that very few writers have. The book is very dark yet the end is heartbreaking and some of the cruel things portrayed are heartbreaking. I feel that this is a great book that deserves to be read.

    Not for the faint hearted

Wow, this book is something else. Many authors can embark upon a dark and harrowing tale, but it takes a really talented one to keep it up all the way through. Hubert Selby is one in a million.

    ZERO

Terrible book along with the other 7-9 books I have ordered. I could not read more than 50 pages because of the terrible language and No story line. Same applys to the other 7 books I have orded.
    For the Writing Tips:
    1. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
    2. I would never recommend this author to anyone.
    3. I would never recommend this book for club discussions.
