School Library Journal - School Library Journal
K-Gr 3 Rosalie, a red setter, is 16. Her muzzle is silver, her coat a little scraggly, her gait slow, her hearing gone, and she sleeps a lot. Even so, she is happy, playful, and loved. Rosalie is shown in a number of everyday situations: at a Little League baseball game, at the playground, on a walk, and at the vet. She is always surrounded by her caring, affectionate family and friends. The text and illustrations are suffused with a mood of poignant tenderness, along with a realistic acceptance of Rosalie's handicaps and an appreciation of her continuing love of life. The writing is clear and interesting and evokes a mood of understanding. The warm watercolor pictures feature apple-cheeked children and gentle adults, all happy and full of lively personality. Lucky Rosalie! Pat Pearl, First Prebysterian Church Library, Martinsville, Va.
