I can't wait until July 10th for the new book. He is my absolute favorite author hands down. The diction and clear descriptions make his stories so compelling!

The bad thing is that the Nook version omitted a very important fact that Kindles didn't. This short story is "supposedly" written by Julian Carax. I would like to know why.

This book was horrible, evrn tho it was only 30 pages i still coukdnt finish it! I wish it had only been 12 because thats as far as i got before i started skipping paragtaphs and finally quit alltogether. Waste of time!!!!

I really enjoyed this short tale in the world of the Library. It gave us a start on how the library was built and its wonderful world. The biggest problem I had was in the length, even knowing that it was going to be short I just started getting into it and it was over. The other issue I had was with out spoiling it the otherworldly happening at the end, not because of what it was but in what I had read so far of the other books I had not seen anything that could not be explained it the real world yet now we have this and though interesting I could have dealt with a more real world explanation. Other wise a very good story.

From the author who brought us amazing books like The Shadow of the Wind and The Prisoner of Heaven (also The Angel’s Game, which was good but not amazing), there’s The Rose of Fire.
Supposedly this short story will explain the origins of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. I was so excited to read it (thanks to Mel @ The Book Musings who told me it existed).
What a disappointment for real. While now I know a little more about the Cemetery of Forgotten books, I don’t even care. The information is crap.
Just think about it like this: His 3 Cemetery of Forgotten Books stories are full of intrigue, mystery, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Was there a teensy bit of magic involved? You’ll never be sure because it’s kept very realistic.
Then you move on to The Rose of Fire. It’s a full-on fantasy with a dragon. What is that about? Nothing like the first three novels.
My advice? Check out The Shadow of the Wind, The Angel’s Game, and The Prisoner of Heaven and skip skip skip The Rose of Fire.
Have you ever had a book in a series severely disappoint?

I wake up in about noon. As i get up and strech my tail starts to throb with pain. I remember the pack of wolves and lick my fluffy tail. Its not broken... thank goodness. Its just got a deep bite. Sighing i look out the crack to make sure the wolves are gone. After about 5 minutes i pad out the crack. My bell starts dinging again. I try to tug it off but it wont budge. Oh well. I start looking around for food. I hear a mouse squeak next to a berry bush. I gasp happily at the sigh of food! But it scares the mouse away... just my luck. I pad over to the berry bush. If the mouse was eating these it must not be poisnous. So i start eating the dark blue berries. It tasted delicious! After i ate my fill i look around. I hear small chattering... i slowly pad to the sound and find a hole. Full of cats! Well 4, but close enough. At last i had found help! "Oh hi! Im sunshine im, im lost! Can you tell me where to get to the city from here?" The 4 cats look at me as if i have 2 heads! One of them pipes up and mews "uhhhh whats a city? If you mean a clan its down that way. You must be talking "kittypet" talk. Its down that way." He flicks his tail in the right direction. It point to another set of woods! Not the one i came from but still woods. I give him a weird look and say "that way?" "Mmhmm" i sigh and start to head off. My bell still ringing away... as i go into the woods i get angrier with every step i take. Growling i say out loud "UGH! I CANT belive this! He didnt lead me to the city at all!! Just mile of WOODS!!" I listen to my echo and see birdd fly away from the loudness. I keep walking anyway until i hear footsteps behind me. Halting i scent the air. "Whos there? I can smell you!" I look around and keep walking. Then i hear it again! "OK! Im NOT in the mood for this!" I growl. Then out of no where a gray cat yowls and leaps at me. I get on my back and kick him with my hind paws. I jump at him and he grabs me and rolls over pinning me down. "Now what?" He mews tauntingly. "This" i say. I scrach his cheek and walk back. "Just leave me alone!" I growl. "Then get off my territory kittypet!" He growls back. There that word is again... kittypet. What does it mean? I sit down and say calmly "Whats your name? Im sunshine." He looked confused and sat down. "Uhhh graypaw... from thunderclan." I blink confused as well. "Whats THUNDERclan?" "You must not be from around here huh?" "You dont say!" I mew. Graypaw rolls his eyes and says. "Just come on!" He leads me through the woods until i reach a clan FULL of cats. Then a grayish blue she cat pads up with a firey orange male behind. The she cat says "Graypaw? Who is this?" ~end

There are moments throughout the writings of Carlos Ruiz Zafon that simply sparkle. 'Rose of Fire: A Short Story' is such a moment.
Recommendation: 100% up there with the short stories of those other guys I mentioned in an earlier recommendation. (I.e. Maugham, Runyon, Twain, Boyle...)
