I wanted to learn Chinese as a casual endeavor/hobby and this is for sure the way to go. The software eases you into the language through image and sound recognition, which is ideal for Chinese which is a difficult language to directly translate from English. In addition, I have a bunch a friends and co-workers who speak Mandarin which has been helpful as I work through the lessons. I bought the entire set of 5 discs and so far have worked through half of the 1st disk in little less than a month with about 7-10 hours of practice a week. So there is a lot of content! Overall I highly recommend and you cannot go wrong with this software if your going to learn Mandarin Chinese.

I was surprised to find that Barnes Noble is selling "Chinese" without further description as a language. In Hong Kong the language is Cantonese and the mainland it's Mandarin. It's unfortunate Rosetta doesn't sell Cantonese. When they do I will buy it.
