Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Shirley Nelson
Fairy friends Rosetta and Fawn could not be more different. Rosetta loves pretty clothes and fancy dinners. Fawn had much rather be riding frogs or playing acorn ball. While Fawn helps other fairies put out a fire, Rosetta will not even collect dew moss because it will dirty her hands and stain her dress. When the friends are invited to dinner with the queen fairy, Rosetta is excited, but Fawn would rather play a game of pea shoot. So they make a deal. Fawn will allow Rosetta to dress her for the dinner if Rosetta will let Fawn plan a day of fun. Rosetta is excited about the dinner but is crushed when everyone thinks Fawn looks more beautiful. Even the queen comes to sit with Fawn and then awards silver necklaces to everyone who helped fight the fire, but not Rosetta. The day of fun Fawn has planned is the worst day of Rosetta's life until she overcomes her fears and understands what friendship is all about. Reviewer: Shirley Nelson

    Commendable

I read this book years ago, yet today I still have much respect for it. Rosetta, a garden fairy, is very "diva-like", not liking anything that involves sweating or dirt or anything that messes with her perfect looks, is friends with athletic, often dirty looking, animal fairy Fawn. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot.

A Garden fairy afraid of getting dirty! Very enjoyable book!

It is ironic that Rosetta is a garden fairy that doesn't like to get dirty. Her world consists of that which is beautiful, & her very lifestyle reflects this in every way. Yet when her friend Fawn asks her her to fulfill her part of a deal, she inadvertently gets drawn into a world that consists of everything she doesn't like. But Rosetta has to choose-what she dislikes, or helping a friend, & in the end, proves that friendship is more important that anything she might dislike. There is a very good lesson taught here! Very enjoyable book!
