    A reviewer

'The Rough Guide To Elvis' provides a very good starting point for those just beginning to explore the life and career of Elvis Presley. The author manages to remain subjective throughout most of the book while presenting the facts, but makes it clear that he is most definitely an Elvis fan. While it's impossible to reveal every facet of Elvis's story in this tiny book, it still makes for a pretty good summary. In addition to chronicling Elvis's life, there are also sections devoted exclusively to exploring the sources for his musical tastes (which were varied), as well as the artists and groups he himself influenced (well...pretty much everybody, really). The author really succeeds in making Elvis seem accessible to a new crop of music fans (often young guys like me who really can't stand a lot of modern music). I first borrowed a copy from my local library, then I bought my own copy and read that to pieces. I have since moved on to the denser works like Peter Guralnick's 2-volume biography, but for those just starting to trace the life and career of Elvis, I cannot recommend this book enough.
