    Cheers to you, Justine!

Justine Rutherford has written a wonderfully descriptive book of her life in Appalachia. Often the trials in life are the ties that bind us, and Justine has illustrated this so well for a first time author. My leisure reading is almost entirely biographical in nature, and I am especially proud to place Rough Lumber next to the books of my favorite authors. Congratulations, Justine!

    Treasured Memories

My Aunt Teeny, a very special lady and a talented author too! Rough Lumber provides an escape to a much simpler time and makes you take inventory of what is really important in your life. The details are incredible; each memory draws you in. Laughter and tears combine to make a memorable journey through years gone by. A personal glimpse into my family history, I will treasure this book always. I am proud to be a descendent of such loving, caring, special people. Thank You Aunt Teeny for sharing your memories and for sharing our history. Congratulations on your book!

The pure Joy of simple living.

Although the advances of the past 50 years have created some dramatic improvements in life in the United States, Rough Lumber provides the opportunity for one to escape to a simpler time. As a reader you will not only get to know the author, but will become the author's friend as you journey along a free spirited path of enjoying each and every opportunity presented. You will experience the freshness of the mountain air and the beauty of caring people that were responsible for making the lives they touched better just because their paths crossed, even if it was just for a short time. I found myself longing for that simpler time, often with a tear in my eye, when the daily pace was slower and a person could experience the richness of true life in all its fullness. My thanks to the author for preserving a piece of history that would provide an exceptional model for impoving the wellbeing of every person that had the foresight to pursue to attain such a freeing lifestyle experience.

    What a remarkable lady.

I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. It taught me not to sweat the little things in life and that money isn't what makes a person rich. It's the love and faith of God that gets you through each day that makes a person rich. Justine displays that in her writings. She was a pistol growing up on the farm. She had me crying tears of laughter with her antics. Growing up in that era seemed to be a very difficult time, but not knowing any different she displayed the riches that life had to offer. I commend her for being able to write such wonderful memories to pass down to her children and her children's children. People today have it easy with all the gadgets and gizmos they have out. Justine should be very proud of her accomplishments because today she truely is 'rich' in her faith and love for God and man. I would be proud to call her my friend.
