Great reading about the old west

Mark Twain was an amazing writer. Roughing It is among my favorite titles. Many people don't realize that he traveled widely around the U.S. in its infancy. In this book he chronicles his travels to the Nevada Territory and Virginia City. This was a rough time. He visits pre-tourist Lake Tahoe and some of the activities around there. It's just a great snapshot of the times. If you are into western history, this is a great bird's-eye view of the "old west" from something other than what you see in movies. What's great too, as a bonus, is M.T.'s wit and priceless style.

A personal favorite. I just love reading and re reading Twain's masterful autobiographical account. Humorous and historical it remains one of the great American books.

    Just a bare scan

This version is a bare scan with no editing, so it's full of mistakes. That doesn't detract from the content except in enough spots to be annoying.
