Rosemary Wells's popular bunnies are getting dressed up for a rainy day -- and perhaps a little baseball -- in this colorful, winsome board book! Made even zippier with foil raindrops on the cover, this frisky tale has Ruby helping Max put on his rain gear. While Max is all fired up to play baseball outside, Ruby warns that it's raining and helps her brother put on his red boots, yellow slicker, and orange hat. But when they open the umbrella and step outside, it's not raining at all! Wells fans will adore Max's exuberant attitude throughout, and they'll giggle over Ruby's confused expression on the last page. A perfect read for both rainy and sunny days, this board book will keep spirits shining brightly.
Children's Literature
Even though it is a rainy day, Max wants to play baseball. His older, all-knowing sister says no and helps him get dressed for the rain. They put on their boots, rain slickers, hats, and then Ruby puts up her big purple umbrella. Most adults will guess what has happened when they get out the door, but Max is happy because the sun is shining and now they can play baseball. Ruby just looks perplexed wondering where all the rain has gone. It is a cute story with loveable characters and plenty of color. The added fun for parents and caregivers will be to get the kids to describe the colors of the boot, slickers, hats and umbrella. 2004, Grosset & Dunlap, Ages 1 to 3.

I purchased this book and Ruby stuffed toy for my two year old niece. I found the illustrations vivid and the story was a classic Max and Ruby adventure. My niece loves her rainy day apparel and in this story, Ruby was trying to get Max to dress for rain. As usual, he resisted and the tale unfolded with gentleness and Ruby's kindness toward her brother. These stories are highly recommended by me for just that reason....Ruby's love for her mischievious brother and her infinite patience. As always, the story ends with a little twist. I will look for many more stories about these two little rabbits.
