Dog Therapist Allie Babcock is Backand she has a bone to pick with a killer

Allies dog therapy practice in Boulder, Colorado is thriving. Her divorcing neighbors, Edith and Trevor, hire Allie to decide which one gets custody of Shogun, their silky terrier. And another neighborhood pair, Cassandra and Paul, need help with a fostered Siberian husky and her puppies.

Life seems to be ambling along quite nicely for Allieuntil she finds Cassandras bloodied body sprawled on Ediths deck with a bloody pawprint next to it and the silky terrier, Shogun, nowhere to be found.

Who could have possibly murdered Cassandra? And where could have little Shogun run to? And even more curious, what really does make that old couple down the street so incredibly hostile?

Not only is Allie in the doghouse with just about everyone she knows, the police are also hounding herhard. Not one to rest on her heels, Allie unleashes her sleuthing skills and finds herself in one close and awfully uncomfortable encounter with a cold-hearted killer

This was an exceptional mystery – plus it’s just fun to find a mystery that can be easily read in one day! There was a lot of twists and turns and was surprised at who the killer really was! GREAT READ!

RUFF WAY TO GO has much to recommend it, especially for dog-lovers! While her romantic life leaves something to be desired, series heroine Allie Babcock's dog therapy business seems to be flourishing. In fact, she has several interesting clients right in her own neighborhood: Cassandra and Paul, who need help adjusting to their new foster-dog and her puppies, and Edith and Trevor, who have asked her to play Solomon anent who gets custody of their dog Shogun in their pending divorce proceedings. Both situations require a fair amount of tact and finesse, but while Allie's busy putting out fires on both fronts, Cassandra is bludgeoned to death, and Shogun disappears. Suddenly the stakes have escallated since her discovery of Cassandra's body has made her suspect number one in both cases, and now not only her professional reputation, but possibly her freedom as well are on the line. An expert on behavioral problems in dogs, Allie speedily finds herself out of her depth as she tries to unravel a pattern of twisted human behaviors in order to uncover the real murderer. What she finds when she finally pieces everything together puts her directly 'in harm's way', and the novel culminates with a real nail-biter of a confrontation between herself and a deranged killer where the only way out of a dog-eat-dog situation is straight down...a rough way to go indeed! Anyone who enjoys tight plotting and a high level of suspense where believable characters (Allie is a delightfully feisty heroine) interact in a realistic manner should have a very good time with this engaging puzzler. What I also found especially appealing about it was the wealth of interesting peripheral information about training and/or modifying canine behaviors which Ms. O'Kane has used to flesh out her plotline. She certainly seems to know whereof she speaks, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading what she had to say on that subject as well as the book itself.

Allie Babcock recently moved back to her hometown to live with her mother. Allie tries to establish a behavior therapist business that works with dogs in an effort to integrate the canine into a family and eliminate any behavioral problems. Allie meets her neighbor Cassandra Random, whose daughter shows off the puppies they are fostering.

She also meets another neighbor Edith who is obtaining a divorce. Edith asks Allie to mediate custody of the family Silky Terrier Shogun since both she and her estranged spouse want the dog. Allie goes to Edith¿s home to see whom Shotgun prefers as his human pet. However, as she steps onto the outside deck, the murdered corpse of Cassandra greets Allie. She also learns that Shotgun is missing. Allie begins to search for the lost canine and uncover the individual setting her up to take the fall in a neighborhood that seems to be in Eerie, Indiana.

The second Allie Babcock mystery is so good that it appears author Leslie O¿Kane will gain awards for the series. The lead protagonist loves dogs so much that she knows their names but fails to recall the names of their owners, a quality that will endear her to animal lovers. RUFF WAY TO GO is an action-packed amateur sleuth novel that effortlessly moves from one character driven scene to another. Ms¿ O¿Kane has another triumph with the lovable Ms. Babcock.
