Rugrats in Paris: The Movie

Barnes & Noble - Dave Gil de Rubio
Although not as diverse as the soundtrack to Rugrats: The Movie, the accompanying music to the second full-length film starring Nickelodeon's favorite tykes still manages to throw a few curveballs amidst the typical bubble-gum pop being served up. Among the tracks sure to please the kiddie corps is Jessica Simpson's Mariah Carey-sounding "Final Heartbreak," while the exquisite harmonies by 2BE3 on the Desmond Child-penned "Excuse My French" rival the best tracks from 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys. Also included is "My Getaway," a bouncy solo jam by TLC's T-Boz, and a dance hall-flavored mix of the Baha Men's novelty smash "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Like its ...

Also included is "My Getaway," a bouncy solo jam by TLC's T-Boz, and a dance hall-flavored mix of the Baha Men's novelty smash "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Like its predecessor, Rugrats in Paris is most notable for the more unexpected tracks it includes. Among them are Sinéad O'Connor's swirling, ethereal "When You Love," produced by Wyclef Jean, and Mylene Farmer's "Histoire d'Une Fee, C'est…," which brings to mind the Cocteau Twins, Vanessa Daou, and Massive Attack. But the one song sure to hook both parent and child is an unrecognizable Cyndi Lauper chortling away on the gorgeous, Celtic-flavored "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever." Loaded with upbeat, lighthearted pop songs, Rugrats in Paris will leave adults and kids alike shouting "Vive le France!"
All Music Guide - Liana Jonas
Music supervisor George Acogny assembled some of bubblegum pop's heavy-hitters -- Jessica Simpson, No Authority, and Aaron Carter, among others -- for the soundtrack to Rugrats in Paris: The Movie. For the most part, the songs here offer an hour's worth of Top 40 and R&B confections that are sure to be lip-synched by kids at sleepovers, playgrounds, and schoolyards. Acogny successfully hits the preteen target audience with his selection of artists. There are a few highlights to Rugrats in Paris that do break away from the teenybopper fare. Sinéad O'Connor delivers soft and ethereal vocals backed by a prominent bassline, angelic choruses, and warm chord progressions on "When You Love." This song remains consistent with the set's overall R&B tone, musically; however, O'Connor's skilled vocals and the advanced lyrics up the ante. "When You Love," which was co-produced by Wyclef Jean, would be right at home on Top 40 and adult contemporary radio stations and offers one of O'Connor's finest career moments. Younger kids, ages four through eight, will really enjoy "Chuckie Chan" by Isaac Hayes with Alex Brown. The Oriental musical sweeps have the power to incite marshal arts mimicking by kids on living room floors the world over. Hayes' and Brown's energetic vocals sound as if they were lifted from the television themes of yesteryear think Batman and Superman. Cyndi Lauper sings the childlike "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever." Acogny made a wise choice in picking this talented and oft-underrated singer to perform the soundtrack's ballad. Lyrically, its simplicity is sweet and sounds as if a ten-year-old were speaking. This song captures the true essence of a young child and his or her view of what a mommy should be. Lauper's innocent delivery and the beguiling lyrics make for the album's most endearing moment.

Angelica Sings Modified version of SUMMER's Bad Girls!!

I LOVE this soundtrack!! I think the last track is the BEST song on the whole CD! Rugrat Angelica sings Donna Summer's Bad Girls with lyrics modified for children, indicating misbehavin kids. One line says it so perfectly, Hey Mommy, spend all your money on me.....It's so cute. Children and adults will love it. Other fine songs are included by Cyndi Lauper, Jessica Simpson, T-Boz of TLC.. Worth the money. Pick it up as a stocking stuffer for the kiddies. YOu will not be disappointed.

The best sountrack in a long while

I found myself tapping my feet and singing Who Let The Dogs Out with my children as we left the movie. Too bad you didn't hear that much music during the movie but what you heard was excellent.
