    Beautiful book

Came across this book while on vacation in Maine. Considered buying it while in Freeport but didn't pull the trigger. When I was still thinking about it months after our return home, I decided that was a sign. I love the history and sense of place evoked by these photos. Beyond the beauty of the content, I have to note the extra care and effort that went into me actually getting the book. This was an online purchase, and when I received it, the dust jacket was torn. Normally I wouldn't be bothered by this, but as a coffee table book, it seemed that a torn cover diminished its display nature. The B&N store in West Des Moines, Iowa completely understood this and offered to order another copy in the hopes it would come with an intact cover. Unfortunately, the second attempt had the same result as the first. At this point, the store employees suggested an alternative to "third time's the charm." Since the first cover was torn in the back and the second had a rip in the front, they offered to essentially "stitch" the two together for a complete dust jacket. I warily opted for this new approach, expecting some sort of Frankenstein-ian result. When I received the final product, I was relieved to find no reason for my doubts. While a seamless cover would have been impossible, this hybrid version was the next best thing. The seam is a tiny line on the back side of the book and the "stitching" materials appear long-lasting and professional. Hats off to the crew at the West Des Moines B&N on University. You will keep me coming back for many years. Thanks again.
