Meet the Author

C.J. loves reading stories that take her away to another world. If she's in the middle of an amazing book, she'll keep reading while cooking or cleaning (when she can be bothered doing either).

She likes interesting artwork but can't paint, sketch or make anything more complicated than a snowman from plasticine. She enjoys beautiful gardens but hates gardening. She also hates housework, cooking (see above) and writing about herself.

C.J. loves connecting with readers. The best place to interact with her and other fans is via her Facebook page. That's where she posts teasers and other stuff from her books.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Cover:  The cover is hot and caught my attention!
The Characters:   Kate - She is strong, rebellious (but not in a bad way) and so very curious. I liked her character and her drive and passion for life.Ben - Is dark, sexy and mysterious. He is a gentleman and kindhearted but has an edge to him.Jane - I thought she was a little old fashioned but she was ok and came about as the story progressed. I wondered how her and Kate were still compatible considering just how different they truly are.
The Story Line:  I really liked the story line. It was the same ole "hot guy with a dark past meets girl" but it was different.
The Ending:  I liked the ending and look forward to the next book. It tied up lose ends but not all of them.

...When I started this book I wasn't sure what to expect since it seemed to contain so much by the description, yet the book was so short.
It starts off with a bang. You get to know a little about the 2 girls and then the handsome stranger arrives. You don't have to read through pages and pages of back history before the story even starts. I love the way the author describes the surroundings. It truly made me feel like I was in the town and inside the mansion/house. It was amazing the connection she helped me form.As you read you learn a little more bit by bit about the history of the town, the people and Ben. You know and can feel that he has a past and a dark secret that is tied to the town or people or the house or even the Grandmother, yet you don't know what it is and really want to find out. I enjoyed the way his story came out and how it was dealt with. It was a twist and I did't see that coming.
I love the way Gran seemed to warm up towards the end but not too much. Just enough to not ruin her character but show she has a heart. Nothing seemed rushed in this short book and it was well written.
I really enjoyed this book and didn't want to put it down. It wasn't a super huge suspenseful novel but it did the trick and was a fast little read. There were some nice love scenes, not your hot sexual erotic ones but nice and simple.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a little romance mixed with intrigue and mystery. I know it won't meet everyone's taste but I really enjoyed it.

    Very good read

Very good read. Though short, it packed alot of bang. Loved that it was more then just a romance. Kept me guessing.

Look forward to reading the next one in this series. Liked that each book is a stand-alone.

I was really sure what to expect with Ruin. The synopsis is very vague but that is a good thing because the reader is really able to sit back and experience the ride.

Ruin had me hooked the entire time. I had so many questions and couldn't stop reading - I needed to get my answers.

Ruin starts off with a stranger showing up in the boring little town of Winter. Kate, a college student spending the summer at home with her parents, feels an instant connection to the stranger - Ben Parker. Ben is so mysterious but Kate believes he is good & starts to form a relationship with him. The problem is not everyone in the sleepy town of Winter believes this mysterious stranger is innocent. I loved the mystery of Ben and wanted answers just like the rest of the town. I love that C.J. Scott completely caught me off guard. Some of the books out right now have predictable plots - Ruin definitely did not!!

My only complaint is that I felt the end was a tad bit rushed. The back of the book has the synopsis for the next book in the series and I was honestly a little disappointed - it is about Kate's friend, Jane. She is a nice girl & all, but I wanted more of Ben & Kate!! SO much of their relationship was in turmoil from the enigma surrounding Ben. I wish I could have seen how he was without that pressure.
Oh well, I guess it's not too bad if my biggest gripe is wanting more, right?!

If you like some mystery & are looking for a book that is not predictable - I would recommend you give this one a read.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author C. J. Scott, and Netgalley.)
20-year-old Kate is home from college in the small village on Winter where she grew up, when 24-year-old Ben arrives in town.

Ben is broke and has nowhere to stay, so Kate suggests he stay with her friend and her grandmother and in return work on their house for them. This also means that Kate will get the chance to get to know him better.
Who is Ben though? What is he doing in Winter? And will he give Kate what she wants?

This was an okay erotic romance story, but I felt that the sex happened quite quickly.

Kate was an okay character. She seemed determined to do what she wanted to do, no matter what anyone else thought of her, and she was pretty determined that once she saw Ben she was going to have him.

The storyline in this one was okay, but it didn’t take long for Kate and Ben to end up in bed together, and it just seemed like it was about the sex rather than anything else as they barely knew each other. The relationship started out as lust on Kate’s part, and there didn’t really seem to be much emotion and feeling involved until later in the story.
The erotic parts of the story were okay, and fairly short, and again I didn’t feel like there was all that much emotion involved.

The mystery of who Ben was and what he was doing in town was quite interesting, and I didn’t guess what was really going on, or why Ben was so secretive. I thought that the ending was okay, but was a little surprised at the way things worked out as Kate was going to be leaving to go back to college quite soon after the events in this book, so the pair wouldn’t be together when that happened anyway.
Overall; an okay erotic romance, with a mystery storyline, but lacking something for me.
    6.5 out of 10.

Okay, so this book was pretty good. It didn't blow me away, it was just good. I felt like Kate was a little forward. I guess it worked out for her, but I wanted to jump into my Kindle and say, "girl, simmer down." I guess she knew what she wanted and wasn't taking no for an answer.

I think the reason I didn't rate this one higher is because I just didn't like Kate. Or couldn't connect, or something. She was just a spoiled brat. She pushed Ben even though he kept saying no. She blamed her parents for everything that went wrong in her life. I just didn't like how she kept talking about them smothering her when Ben was going through exactly the opposite.

Anyway, I loved Ben. I love an angsty, bad boy type who strolls into town and causes havoc. I also loved Mrs. H. However, I think Jane stole the show. I will not hesitate to read her story.

If you are looking a quick, pretty good read, give this a try. It's entertaining!
