Overview

I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that the shroud of depression has become my only comfort. Ignorant, I was content in the darkness... until Wes Michels offered to be my light.

I didn't know that time wasn't my ally, that every second that ticked pass was one closer to the end of something that was starting to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me and promised me what he was able to offer, each moment as it came, but it would never be enough.

Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying. And when you think it's the end, the final curtain, sometimes that's only the beginning. Wes thought he could save me, but in giving me everything, he ruined me. Because after one kiss, one touch, I couldn't... I wouldn't ever be the same. And from that moment on, his heartbeat became my own.

Rachel Van Dyken, you have rendered me speechless, for the umpteenth time. My brain cannot process how you continue to deliver such incredible stories in such short periods of time, but trust me, I am thanking the good lord that he blessed you with this amazing talent. RUIN had me on an emotional roller coaster, one minute I was swooning and the next I was biting my nails off trying to guess what was going to happen next. This story beautifully depicts how two complete strangers can change each others lives forever. Kiersten is by no means looking for Wes when she finds him and I think that makes it all the more exciting. They both find each other when they are least looking for a companion and because of that they are able to build a friendship that blossoms into an amazing love story. The love, dedication and willingness to fight for one another had me rooting for Kiersten and Wes from the very beginning. I can promise anyone who reads this book that you will fall absolutely in love with it and not be able to put it down until you are finished; and even after that you’ll be picking it up to re-read over and over again. As always Rachel, your work never ceases to amaze me. I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review - and will still be purchasing a copy when it releases on the 12th!

AMAZING!!!  You will be happy you read this book!!! Ruin wasn't what I expected, it was better! It is a story that I didn't foresee, a topic I didn't think could be tackled, and a journey I didn't want to end. Ruin is raw; pure raw emotion. You will cry, your breathing will hitch, you will tell yourself 'this can't be happening' over and over again -- and you will continue to read because this story is powerful and has the ability to change you -- change your outlook on life, on love, on time. I feel blessed to have read this book (yes I just said 'blessed' in a book review). Ultimately Wes and Kiersten's story will become a movie in your mind as you experience it first-hand. Gabe and Lisa will become your friends too because this story feels real. Wes, Kiersten, Gabe and Lisa show what true friendship and love it all about. Because you never know what hand life will deal you, only you can decide what to do with the hand you are dealt. Ruin is heart-wrenching, packs an emotional punch (or two) and takes you on a journey you never thought you would take. Words honestly cannot describe how incredible this novel is. Ruin spans multiple genres because this inspiring novel will bring even the harshest critic to tears. "Do it afraid." ~Wes "...we'll keep our own time." ~Kiersten I received a copy of this book for free.  This is my honest review.

This book brought me to tears and laughter many times. I honestly believe this is the best book I've read all summmer. The characters are so inspiring more so than my normal read. The author did an amazing job with this book and I know for the next week this book will be on my mind only in a way a life changing book can be which is actually inspiring me to be better and always tell your loved ones you love them. Thank you so much for this book!

This story is ok but definitely not what I was expecting, should be listed as a Christian Fiction/ Romance. I'm not saying I didn't like the story but as a non-religious person all of the references of God were a little much.

I have no idea why this book is rated 4.5.  The plot is extremely shallow, so I never felt connected with any of the characters.  Also, towards the end I felt like all of the religious references were a bit much.

I liked the book overall, however, to me it seems the author switched writing syles or genres toward the end. It was worth the few dollars I paid for it. It did draw your emotions, but I was a tad bit let down toward the end and the way the author wrapped up the book. Again, it was a decent book, but I was wish the author would not have ended the book so abruptly or in such a way that did not fit with the how the story flowed throughout most of the book.

I bought this book only because it was $0.99. I had just finished a book earlier that day and thought nothing could compare to the one I had just finished. I bought this book after reading a few great reviews. I finished it in just a couple days. I have to say- this is the best book I've ever read. I was laughing, crying, falling in love with the characters, and stayed on my toes wondering what would happen next. This is an amazing story about living life, falling in love when you least expect it, and making friends that will be with you for a lifetime. I recommend this book to everyone. It is definitely a must-read!!

Awesome book for anyone...we all struggle with illness, death, loved ones who we never wish to let go of... This story simplifies & prioritizes the most important part of our lives...time. I lived & loved & shared those precious moments with each character. Embracing with a grateful heart!

So when I read books, I never feel any emotion.... but holy crap I did with this one. I cried so hard at some parts of the book and laughed at others. I totally recommend this book.

It was okay. I've read a couple of books by this author, and even though the characters are suppose to be of a mature age, the dialogue is childish, as are some situations. After reading the rating on the book, I thought I'd give this one a try but, it just doesn't live up to the hipe. I didn't grow up in a LEAVE IT TO BEAVER home. I guess that's why it's hard to relate. That TV show was so far off the mark of reality, even in its day, and so are the characters in Rachel Van Dykens stories. S.A.K.

I found a lack of character development and substance made it hard for me to get into this book. The plot was believable and I felt like I eas reading words on a page but not a story.... I have been reading alot in this genre lately but this book did nothing to entertain me.

When an author can ring such deeply felt emotions out of a multitude of readers, you know there is something special going on. I have read and enjoyed a few books by this author and while I did thoroughly enjoy them, this feels like her finest work yet. Yes, you have to get past some minor editing issues but I promise it is worth it. Read this book. It will change you.

This book makes you stop and think about what a gift life is and how most of us take it for granted. I loved the main characters and hope you write Gabe's story.
