Just one more can’t hurt…right?

Break on Through, Book 1

Re-belle-ious, free-spirited Lauren Renwick has decided it’s time to trade her wings for roots. That means no more bad boys, no more foolish choices. Yet when she’s stood up on New Year’s Eve, her resolution to stick to her Mama’s Rules for Dating weakens. Especially when she spots sex-in-leather-and-tattoos, Jackson Sullivan.

One look at Lauren, and Jackson is hell-bent on getting her on the back of his Harley and riding straight for his bed. Their night together is an erotic rush that has a new word popping up on his horizon—forever.

Lauren tries to convince herself he’s just one last fling to get bad boys out of her system, yet she finds herself falling hard and fast for a man with a stalker ex and a meddling Irish family. Plus, he has zero chance of passing her uptight parents’ inspection.

Jackson has Lauren’s back, but if she wants all of his heart, she’ll have to meet him halfway—by ditching rules that hold her prisoner, and learning to stand up for what she really wants.

Warning: Contains several highly practical rules for dating—all of which will be broken in the most wicked ways possible, thanks to a domineering alpha male who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it...rules be damned.

There was something about the cover and title that caught my attention. Then when I read the blurb, it just made me more intrigued with the book. When I started the book, it sucked me right in and I didn't want to put it down.  After her friends and family Life Intervention, Lauren has finally started to settle down. She found a steady job, a house and even agreed to try to follow her southern mother's rules for catching "Mr. Right". Everything seems to be coming together, until Mr. Could Be Right stands her up on New Year's Eve. So in a fit of pique, Lauren heads out looking for someplace to go where she won't run into anyone she knows - and ends up a biker bar. And here is where she meets Jackson, Mr. Absolutely All Wrong.  There is insta-lust right from the beginning. Lauren had planned a one night stand, last hurrah, kinda of deal, but Jackson believes he has found the one. He just has to convince Lauren to trust in him.  There was plenty of sexy times, but there were also tender times, funny times and sweet times. There were so many moments when Jackson made my heart sigh, I lost count. There are several times I would love to tell you about.... but no spoilers from me. This was a great read 4 star read.  Thank you to Harper Kincaid and Tasty Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review the book.

Lauren’s mother had set the rules – but one look, one touch and one taste – all the rules had been broken and readers are in for one-hot-ride of their life. NO MORE BAD BOYS.  Or so she has been told. But on New Year’s Eve, when she has been stood up, Jackson had literally swept her off her feet. He was everything her mother didn’t want. He was temptation personified. He was a total alpha, but has his sweet moments. You can’t help but like him. He is determined and very persuasive – how can you ever say no? It was supposed to be her last fling, a one-last hurrah before she finally succumbs to the rule. Yet, she finds herself falling more and more for this sexy alpha. He was more than what meets the eye. He knows how to push her buttons in and out of bed. Not only that, she also fell in love with his meddling families. Now, if he can only pass through her parent’s inspection. She was all he ever wanted. He will support her with whatever she wants – but she needs to meet him half way. He wants her, but she needed to fight for him or for anything that she really wants with her life. Will breaking the rules be enough? Will she be able to get out of her mother’s-slash-father’s clutches? This was one fun, sizzling hot read. If you have some space in your hearts for rule-breakers and sexy alpha’s with meddling parents and sisters well – this one is for you.

As a debut title Ms. Kincaid has crafted a sweet and sexy tale of opposites attracting that brings readers a little afternoon delight. Amidst familial and personal expectations two people form an unexpected relationship that shows surprising heart along the well as a bit of steam. Lauren's been unlucky in love and is tired of falling for the wrong man. Even after following her family's rules for dating, she's still left alone and trying to find escape at a biker bar. What she gets instead is the sexy and very-Alpha Jackson, a man who knows exactly what he wants and doesn't hesitate in going after it. He and Lauren click immediately as he makes a lasting impression on her in a closet and sets out to make an even bigger impression by proving to her that bad boys make the best lovers. As their relationship deepens, exes intrude to cause a ripple to their romance that thankfully they deal with in a quick and mature way. All in all it added up to a sweet and sexy romp with a delectable hero. This was ultimately a satisfying story that didn't break any molds. There was a nice balance of steamy interludes with sweet and tender moments. What it did, it did well. Lauren is a good heroine, a good daughter who tries to please others. She tries to follow her mother's dating rules but finds it more satisfying to break them. She's unfortunately overshadowed by the delicious dichotomy that is Jackson. He may have tats and look like a bad boy but he's a smart man with a business that makes a comfortable living. He's larger than life and goes after what he wants wholeheartedly. He's extremely supportive of Lauren, protective of her heart, and won't let anyone hurt her. He's full of life and brings joy and excitement to Lauren's previously staid life and is clearly the only one to ever give her a HEA. Surrounding this sweet and sexy couple are a memorable cast of secondary characters who could easily carry their own story and I look forward to where Ms. Kincaid plans on taking us next as she showed some good promise here.

Yowser! That was HOT! No, that was HAWT!!! I want my own Jackson Sullivan. I felt sorry for Laruen when she first walked into the bar. Being dumped on New Year’s Eve because the guy you’ve been dating decided to reconcile with his ex-wife sucks big time. My sympathy for her lasted up until the moment Jackson began stalking toward her and then I was as jealous of her as the bar skanks were. Jackson is sexy as sin, responsible, tatted up, determined, protective, possessive, and an alpha male through and through – the kind of man it would be crime against nature should he not reproduce. And with each chapter, he just got better and better. I LOVED the scene when he finally meets her parents. After that scene, Lauren had not one chance in he!! of not falling for him. Honestly, how many guys are going to stand up to their possible future in-laws and call them out on their treatment of their daughter? Obviously Jackson Sullivan has been added to my short list of book boyfriends, but I kinda have a girl crush on Lauren. Her character is that of someone I would want in my inner circle of friends. She’s sweet, genuine, respectful, and was so totally in love with Jackson before she was willing to admit it. It was cute how she tried to follow her mama’s rules for dating in an effort to humor her female family members while trying to find someone to settle down with. This was made even better by the fact that Jackson and her interactions with him flew in the face of every one of her mama’s rules and he ended up being perfect for her. The chemistry between Jackson and Lauren is perfect and the sex is off-the-charts hot – especially on his birthday! Rule Breaker is Ms. Kincaid’s debut novel and I am thoroughly impressed. It is a definite reread for me and I cannot wait for the next book in the Break on Through series. Well done Ms. Kincaid! This story is both hot and hilarious and I love how Lauren breaks all the rules of dating we've heard over and over again. Plus Jackson Sullivan is totally my new book boyfriend.

Rule Breaker is the first book I read by Harper Kincaid and I wasn't sure what to expect but the synopsis sounded fun and I decided to risk it. Well, I can say that it wasn't exactly what I expected but it also wasn't bad. This was a short and fun story with interesting characters and one seriously dominant, tattooed and hot as hell bad boy with a soft spot for Harleys :D Both Jackson and Lauren were quite interesting characters. Jax is one seriously hot tattooed biker with dark hair and pantie melting blue eyes :) He also has this dominant and protective streak that makes him that much more attractive. One of the things I really liked about him is that he goes after what he wants and he is ready to defend and protect his woman even if it is against her own parents :) That was definitely one of my favorite scenes in the story. Lauren was definitely an intriguing character. Being an artist, she is quite often misunderstood, even by her parents. They have the best intentions and in their own way they just want her to be happy but the thing they mainly manage to accomplish is make her question her own value. The person who changes that and makes her believe in herself again is Jax. He manages to go through the wals she erected around her heart and shows her what true love is :) In a few words, the book was good. Not my favorite one but definitely good. I would preferred a little bit more intense story but if you are into sweet romantic stories, with a little bit of spice on top, this book is definitely for you :) Lauren and Jax are quite interesting and intriguing characters and the chemistry between them is simply off the charts. So be ready for a few quite spicy scenes :) In my case, I am waiting for the next book in the series :) This review was originally posted at Living In Our Own Story Book Blog. I received an ARC of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Let me just first say, Jackson? Just thinking about that man has me all hot and bothered! Just wanted to get it out of the way.  This is a really quick read and if you’re not a fan of a fast moving, somewhat insta-love story, you’re missing out. The story is short enough to move fast and long enough to feel satisfied at the end. It’s the kind of book that I can pick up in between reads for a pick-me-up that gives me some quick gratification. Lauren is a really fun heroine. She skittish and a little too intimidated by her family. However, if you know big Southern families…you’d be more understanding. She’s witty and sarcastic, which I always love. She seems like a solid friend and the kind of gal I’d like to get to know. Jackson is a take what he wants and trample all over anyone in his way of it, kind of guy. He sees Lauren, he wants Lauren, he takes Lauren. Then the best part, he keeps Lauren.  Their chemistry is smoldering, like burn the house down hot. Their relationship also has sweetness and romance. They are a great couple, a complete contradiction on paper, but just perfect when they are together.  I really only had one issue with this book. The speech was a little hard to get through at times. I didn’t mind the way she wrote out the speech idiosyncrasies most of the time, but as the book went on, it was more and more and it got a little annoying. Then at times, Jackson would speak in short sentences that never seemed to really start. It was a little jerky and distracting.  “Didn’t want to tell you like this.” “Wanted to be the one to tell you first.” That kind of this, but in succession in one paragraph. Other than that, I had a great time reading this book! It’s all about the relationship between Jackson and Lauren, it moves quickly, they fall fast, and hard. I loved both of them and it made the story all the sweeter. I’ll definitely be picking this up from time to time for a story to make me melt and smile. 4.75 stars!

When I first read the synopsis I was intrigued with the story, not having read any of Harper Kincaid's works before I did not know what to expect. Needless to say, I was not as impressed with how events transpired throughout the book. The story itself had a lot of potential had it been a bit longer, I feel that the length of the book was too quick and everything got resolved too fast. I did liked the characters, especially Jackson Sullivan.  In Ruler Breaker, we meet Lauren Renwick, a free-spirited southerner who has been recently dumped by her boyfriend. Being New Year's Eve she decides to take the opportunity of a new start by making a list of things that her mother has been telling her to look for in a man if she wants to settle down. Having stumbled upon a bar, she goes in only to find everyone starting at her, but when a handsome motorcycle guy walks up to her and asks for her name, Lauren knows that she is in big trouble.  It only took Jackson one look at Lauren to know that she was meant for him. As the bar owner, he is used to having people come and go, and for women throw themselves at him, but the minute he spots Lauren coming in he sees that she might be the perfect woman for him. Now he has to convince her that he is the right guy for her and they might just deserve the chance to have a fresh start. With unexpected events coming their way, they learn to trust each other, and move on. There were a couple of things that I liked about the story, one of them being Jackson's personality. He is protective and caring towards the ones he loves, and Lauren gets to see that right away. The drawback is that he is a bit overly possessive that gets him in trouble with Lauren. But he did redeemed himself when he stood up for Lauren when her parents started questioning her decisions and her love life. The ending was great too, but I would have liked to have a read a bit more of Lauren's interactions with Jackson's family. As I stated before, the story was short and everything got resolved too fast. There wasn't a slow and continuous pace for me to enjoy their story. Overall, if you like quick-to-resolve type of stories then I would recommend this book, it was not my favorite, but I will be reading more from the author. :) ***A copy of this book was provided by the author for the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.***

Appearances can be deceiving, and Jackson is way more than his biker bad boy image. I love the way he appreciates Lauren for who she is, and stands up for her. Short and sexy read - wish it would have been longer! ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

My Thoughts: Talk about a wild ride of a book! When I first saw this one, I was instantly drawn into it, by the cover and then the synopsis. I knew, without a doubt, that I had to check it out. A girl trying to stick to some ridiculous list? That's going to end well. And, guess what? It did! Jackson and Lauren had instant chemistry, something she didn't want to have happen with a guy like him. Jackson is one of those wonderful guys who appears to be a bad boy, but deep down you just know he's a loving and wonderful man. He proves this to Lauren time and again, and she may think they're just having fun, but there's more below the surface... and both of them know it. Over time, there's more to them than just some fling. But is it the real thing? Rule Breaker was a great debut! I loved how we got to see each rule that was being broken as the story was told. I had moments where I was wondering where the story was going, but it all came together little by little. Can't wait to see what else Harper Kincaid has in store. My Rating: Very Good

Not My Favorite By This Author... I’m a fan of Harper Kincaid and I enjoy her stories so when I saw this one up for grabs, I was excited to get my hands on it. And in all honesty, the book wasn’t bad. It was a bit short, there was way too much drama at the end and the resolution came too quickly in my opinion, but it was fun, it had decent characters, the story was interesting and I would have rated this book much higher.... if I hadn’t already read this story... in another book.  Rule Breaker felt like a scaled down version of the book, Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley, a book I adore and have read four or five times, so I’m intimately familiar with it, the characters, the plot, the setting, everything. And though there are some differences in between this book and that one, there were enough similarities that I felt uncomfortable reading this one.  The writing was similar, the romantic part of the plot was similar, even to the names of the hero and heroine are similar. They meet about the same way, the hero has a similar career, the heroine just got dumped, the hero has a crazy ex with a substance abuse problem that wants him back, there’s a kid/baby involved, the settings feels the same, the sub characters are familiar, the dialogue was similar with the hero speaking in biker-short manspeak... the list goes on. And it’s those similarities I couldn’t get past in order to rate this book higher.  Regardless, I’m still a fan of this author and I look forward to her next book. I just didn’t like how this one made me feel. *Written for Craves the Angst Book Reviews*

Lauren meets Jackson on New Years eve after her boyfriend dumps her. Instant attraction has her breakin' all her momma's rules about how to "catch" the perfect man. The story is short and the pace is fast. I liked the author's choice on how to help the time pass. Loved Jackson and thought this was a terrific job for an author's first book. Definitely looking forward to future works. - I was already falling for him, and not just for his beautiful face and dirty mouth, but for the way in which he saw the world.

Intrigued by the “break out of the shell” promise of the synopsis, I went into this book hoping for a fun romance and intriguing characters.  This novella started with a bang: Lauren is bold and ballsy, her making the best of a  night gone wrong by breaking ALL the rules for a dive bar. Heels and a froofy girly dress, ordering a ‘girly’ drink,  but able to bring the bartender around by knowing how to make it. When she is spotted, then claimed by Jackson all things start to turn and twist. Their attraction is solid and palpable, from the first knee-shaking moment to the end, I was hoping for more of their interplay and interactions in real time, not just in afterthoughts. I enjoyed Jackson’s overplayed confidence  in his abilities, but I felt there was more of him to build and develop so I could buy into him.   And then – the drama appeared in the form of his ex-girlfriend and that was all too predictable and pat for the story, and perhaps one element too many for this novella. Jackson and Lauren both deserved more page time showing their relationship, their interactions and less time spent time-hopping forward to get to drama, even if the drama was only serious in the ex’s tiny brain.  The ending felt rushed and pushed to me, and I can’t help but wonder if more development of the characters as a pair wouldn’t have had me happier, leaving the drama for the next installment.  I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review:  all conclusions are my own responsibility.

As posted on The Smutty Kitty reviewed by KittyKelly 3 out of 5 Licks This book was a solid three out of five for me.  Overall it made me laugh and sigh and even a little hot under the collar from time to time, but it lacked that something that made me hold on tight and not let go.  This one started off with a bang with some hot sexy stuff with a stranger, but fell a little for me after that.  The conflict that was introduced in the form of Lexie just didn't make me feel anything.  She was way too desperate and Jackson was a real pushover when dealing with her.  Lauren was a bit too controlled by her mother for being a grown woman.  Seeing her break every rule was fun though.  Jackson is a sexy man who seems to say all the right things at all the right times, but he was a bit crazy with his expectations that Lauren would just accept all the things he said to her as fact without any reasoning behind them.  All in all I did enjoy the story and we get a complete resolution with an epilogue (which I absolutely love).  I'm looking forward to seeing this author grow as the series grows.
