If you've ever been taken for a ride by the stock market, then this book might be your best revenge. Although his style isn't for the faint of heart, expert trader Michael Parness, a former victim of Wall Street's whims, offers pugnacious and, most important, sound advice on how to take advantage of market fluctuations and trends.

Parness, who lost his life savings in a bad investment and then came back to amass a $7 million fortune, isn't interested in making long-term investments. In his view, companies don't care about you -- they only want your money -- so why should you be loyal to their stock, thereby tying up your capital for years? Instead, why not be a perpetually active trader, constantly exploiting the market to obtain a faster return?

Early in his book, Parness offers exercises to see if you're trader material and whether you have the time, energy, and nerve to go at it effectively. If you can bear to hold onto a stock for just a few days -- or even just a few minutes -- without cracking, then you're a potential trader. Of course, trading stocks needn't be that extreme, but the dedicated trader will execute fast-moving trades without remorse or hesitation. Parness wants to make trading fun as well as profitable, but he also recommends research and careful preparation.

How can profits be assured in any market, particularly a volatile and uncertain one? Parness dissects the broad psychology of the market and reveals effective methods for responding to fluctuations: Although he acknowledges that no one can accurately predict which way a particular stock is going to go, he reveals the trends that provide some fodder for predications. If you can master the underlying psychology, you can profit in the market -- even when it's in a bearish phase.

An erstwhile playwright/screenwriter who became a multimillionaire through online trading, Parness provides a Gen-X view of the stock market. His loss of working capital owing to "expert" help and his success in doing it on his own temper his views. In truth, Parness covers little new territory this is Investing 101. Leslie Masonson (Day Trading on the Edge), who outlines the pros and cons of day trading, goes several steps beyond Parness. While Parness does make a number of well-founded recommendations, explaining that investors must learn from loss and understand the cyclical nature of the market, he offers little beyond the "Motley Fool" newspaper columns (and web site) by Tom and David Gardner. Libraries with other recent investment guides can readily do without this book. Not recommended.     'Make all paths lead to Wowsa'?

    This is the worst book on investing I have ever read. I kept reading thinking it would get better, but the Psychology 101 just kept going and going and going. Parness says, 'Here are the things that bring the Wowsa! to my life every day and help make me a successful trader and a successful person. Being good to others and being good to yourself.' And this is some of the good stuff. Here's some more insightful Parness - 'Greed = Death. Pigs get slaughtered.' 'Control your inner knucklehead.' 'Swing for singles, not the fences - and often you'll hit home runs anyway.' I kept waiting for some sound advice or techniques that would help me in my study of the market. Instead I got bad cliches and stories on how successful he has been. Give me a break.

    Excellent Book!

    One of the best reads on the stock market and the nonsense that takes place on Wall Street that I've ever come across! Not only is the writing FUNNY, the information is jammed packed in an easy to access manner that makes me want to trade even more than I do now. I'm a sucessful trader for the last 3 years, but this book makes it even clearer to me that I should and WILL make more using some of the simply steps outlined here. All in all, a wonderful book on a hard to make interesting subject. 5 Star rating!

    It's Amazing!!!

    I was amazed at how simple to understand, straightforward and entertaining Michael Parness¿s book, Rule the Freakin¿ Markets, really is. Although I¿m not yet a trader, I plan to take some of his advice and tips from the book and experiment with them. I especially liked the section called ¿The Mind Game¿ which includes ¿The Seven Deadly Sins, Plus Fear.¿ Also, the chapter called ¿Hot Tips from Hell: Five Bad Ways to Pick Stocks¿ was also revealing. I give this book the highest rating of five stars.

    Refreshing viewpoints and an honest appraisal

    Of the market make this book on trading a new 'classic'. I've read many books on trading, and though some of the information is trading basics 101, the key component for sucess, a trading mindset, is handled in a unique and focused manner, making this book a must read by newbies who wish to break in to trading, and/or sucessful traders who need to maintain their winning edge. The writer's street lingo gives the book an almost comic appeal as well, making it not only enlightening, but entertaining as well. This is no dry stock market guru book, this is the real deal. A job well done!

    A great find

    This book rules! The author really understands what makes the difference between winning and losing in the market, and presents his wisdom in such a memorable way that it really sticks. Even though I've traded for a while, the book gave me many new insights into trading and was a great reinforcement for advice I'd heard before (I know I'm capable of straying from the true path every now and then). It also explains *why* familiar rules work, which makes all the difference. The author's great sense of humor makes this book hard to put down because it's just so much fun to read, and I never thought I'd say that about a trading book! There's nothing else like it out there. Parness really gets it -- he knows how to teach you to trade.
