Rules of Entanglement (A Fighting for Love Novel) by Gina L. Maxwell

Seven days. And seven rules to break…

District Attorney Vanessa MacGregor firmly believes that structure and order are the stuff that dreams are made of. Happiness can be planned--and it starts with the seven rules she's laid out for her future. But as she's organizing her best friend's wedding in Hawaii, all of Vanessa's best-laid plans are about to meet their match in a wickedly hot MMA fighter…

Jackson "Jax" Maris is focused on surfing, training, and fighting. That is, until he opens up his big mouth and finds himself having to pretend he's engaged to his little sister's best friend, Vanessa. When they're forced to share a romantic bungalow, however, their little charade suddenly takes a turn for the seriously sexy. And while Jax is definitely not part of Vanessa's long-term plan, he has seven days--and seven naughty nights--to turn her seven-rule plan upside down.

Library Journal
In this second book in Maxwell’s “Fighting for Love” series, District Attorney Vanessa MacGregor is a woman who is so afraid of commitment that she lives by a set of immutable rules that no man could possibly live up to. She needs control but has to learn to let go. Her best friend’s brother, Jackson “Jax” Maris, learns that he needs to find a woman who doesn’t cling to him—in other words, someone who keeps control of herself, at least most of the time. So Jax breaks most of Vanessa’s rules, and only the forced proximity of standing in for his sister and her fiancé making last-minute wedding arrangements keeps them together long enough to get past their initial rocky start. But once Vanessa and Jax decide to play with the time they have, their relationship is hotter than the nearby Hawaiian volcanoes. The only question is whether they can get past the biggest broken rule of all.

Verdict There’s a reason that the “opposites attract” romance is so popular: it generates lots of tension and tons heat! Rules of Entanglement definitely has plenty of both. There’s also a bit of sweetness as this couple explore the reasons behind Vanessa’s reluctance to commit and Jax’s family troubles. Fans will love this steamy summer romance. Double your pleasure and read also the first title in the series, Seducing Cinderella.—Marlene Harris, Seattle P.L.

Five stars isn't enough! Jax and Vanessa's story has been long awaited, and does not disappoint. From page one you are drawn into the characters, the story, and Ms. Maxwell's gift for writing. The dialogue between the characters will one minute crack you up, and the next have you squirming in your seat. The way Ms. Maxwell describes the scenery is amazing. It's almost as though you're there, watching Jax on his surf board riding the waves, smelling the ocean breeze, feeling the sand between your toes.

I love strong characters who aren't afraid to go after what they want. Jax wants Vanessa, and her "7 rules" do not stand in his way. In fact, he thoroughly enjoys breaking each and every one of them. And the heat between these characters...it jumps and sparks right off the pages.
This book isn't a special edition for nothing. Longer than the usual Brazen and a huge fist-pump for that! This reader was thoroughly pleased, and is anxiously awaiting the next installment of this wonderful series.

    Very well done, Gina!

    Highly disappointed

I was very disappointed with this book. I didn't make it even halfway. I expected way more considering the long wait we had and the fact that seducing Cinderella got me into these types of books. The story (or the part i actually got through) didnt pull me in at all.But this is just my opinion not to be taken to heart considering I disliked it so much I didn't even finish the book. Though it is well written and the author still has my respect for her other story seducing cinderella this story didn't hold a candle in comparison. Better luck next time

    Good

    ## I loved, loved the 2nd half of this book. Really, I did. The first half had me frustrated and I had a hard time liking the hero. Gah. He was so arrogant and cocky. The worst kind of hero. I don't mind a confident alpha male that likes to take charge in the bedroom. In fact that's hot. But I just wanted to smack this guy. Then, BAM, something happens and all of a sudden he's this caring, playful, loving guy. HUH? Anyway, it was good, but not as good as "Seducing Cinderella". That book rocked.

There are some books that you really love the writing right off

There are some books that you really love the writing right off the bat but the hero? Well you want to stab him in the toe. And the heroine? Yeah, she could use a good flick or two. Having that insta-connection right from the start with characters is awesome but sometimes it's a whole hell of a lot more entertaining when they actually have to work to win you over along the way. Jax and V. Well they had to work to win me over but man by the end of the book I was just as smitten and in love as they were.

Vanessa and Jax were a trip. The two were basically put together and had to pretend to be engaged so they could handle last minute wedding planning at a super strict and exclusive resort for his sister and her fiance (they're the couple from book one, Seducing Cinderella). Yall know I love the "fake mates" set up so that was totally working for me.
The two are such opposites personality-wise that it brought a bit of bite to their interactions which I really enjoyed. He's way too laid back and she's way too high strung and the two clash from the get go and aren't one bit hesitant about zinging the other now and again. I loved that little bit of snarky humor as the two got to know each other and dealt with their up close and personal living arrangements and their growing attraction to each other.

One thing I really enjoyed about the book was that they're both a bit tweaked as adults. They have weird hang ups and "life rules" but as the book progresses you slowly find out what made them that way. Why they're a bit crazy or a little too laid back about things. They had me tearing up a couple times as things were revealed and they had to deal with the past.

There are a lot of funny snarky moments and some sweet ones as well. And the sex? Flipping hot. Just a little edgy with a touch of dominance/submission. Don't fret for yall not into BDSM. This doesn't go there. Just a little alpha male coming out and taking control in a really hot and sexy way.

Overall definitely a read I'd recommend. Will you love Jax and Vanessa the whole time? Eh, if you're like me maybe not. I had to resist the urge to pound on them a few times. But, watching these two win each other over and winning me over at the same time was a damn entertaining experience and made for a fun read that'll having me coming back for more from Gina L Maxwell.

This was an intriguing story. The author did a great jobin developing her characters. I like books where main characters are really secondary to the story. Lucie and Reid are the ones getting married but the story carries through with Vanessa and Jackson. Gina Maxwell couldn't have come up with a better wounded hero and heroine. The sparks fly when easy going Jax is supposed to pick up strung tight Vanessa at the airport and arrives late. She needs to work with Lucie's wedding planner as Lucie is too sick to fly to Hawaii to go over things pre-ceremony.Jax flies as he sees fit and Vanessa follows strict "rules to live by". Jax also has majors issues among which is he is interested in Vanessa so badly that he lies and tells her they have to pretend to be Lucie and Reid. They finally get hooked up and from there on it's all spice! This book flowed smoothly from one catastrophe to another. The sex is fairly graphic so be prepared. The publisher should be proud to have Gina on their team!

    Didn't get it

I just never connected with the main character. Her list felt contrived and too many things just fell into place. Not realistic.

    Disappointing

I really liked Seducing Cinderella but was very disappointed with this sequel especially the character development of Vanessa. She came across silly, immature and b#@$&y. No self respecting man, especially one protrayed as Jax, would have given her the time of day after hearing her "rules".

Maybe Ms. Maxwell's next book will be more realistic or at least a nicer heroine.

I really liked this book, but i LOVED Seducing Cinderella so much more. This book was good and would recommend it for sure. Just wasnt as good as i thought it was going to be. It was definately a good story though :)

There was just something missing in this book. Very predictable. Nothing distinguishable about the characters or the story line. I had to skim read more than half the book.

WOW, Gina L. Maxwell does it again! I never thought I could love

WOW, Gina L. Maxwell does it again! I never thought I could love another book boyfriend quite like Reid in Seducing Cinderella but boy was I wrong. Jax stole my heart! I was so impressed with Rules of Entanglement. It was a fantastic read! It had everything I was looking for…..angst, humor, love, smokin’ hot sex, a feisty woman, and a sexy as hell MMA fighter! This story had me at MMA fighter!

Jax is the brother of Lucie from Seducing Cinderella and Reid’s best friend. Vanessa and Jax are standing in for Lucie and Reid when it comes to planning their wedding in Hawaii. Jax is so intrigued with Vanessa that he tells a little fib! Are you intrigued yet? You should be!

I fell in love with Vanessa’s character. She was a strong, independent, sexy woman who didn’t depend on anyone in life. She lived by her 7 rules and made sure to stick to them. That was until Jax came along. He was everything her rules represented. Hmm, can Jax show Vanessa that her rules shouldn’t be enforced and break down Vanessa’s walls? You will have to read this tantalizing read to find out :)*Sigh* Jax I love him! Yes, I may seriously be in love with a fictional character! He was sweet, considerate, sexy, an MMA fighter, a surfer, and had a smile that would drop any woman’s panties (mine included.) *Swooning over Jax*I highly suggest Rules of Entanglement! It was sinfully sexy and I was so enthralled with this story! I cannot wait for more from Gina L. Maxwell!

Gina Maxwell provides another swoon-worthy novel with a super ho

Gina Maxwell provides another swoon-worthy novel with a super hot MMA fighter as our starring hero.

Vanessa MacGregor is no stranger to the hard life. And to ensure that she never has to live through it again, she develops her seven rules to live by. Rules that will keep her safe and secure. That is until she arrives in Hawai’i and meets her best friend’s hot-as-hell older brother. Jackson, or Jax, is supposed to be helping Vanessa make sure that all the details are in order for Lucie and Reid’s upcoming wedding, but all he seems to be doing is turning her on and making himself a nuisance. The more time she’s around him, the more rules she finds she’s ready to break. So when she learns that they are supposed to be pretending to be Lucie and Reid, she realizes there is no way she’s going to be able to share a bungalow with this man and keep her distance too. So why not engage in an ultra-steamy fling with the sexy male that seems to be around her all the time? As long as she sticks to her rules, she’ll be fine…..right?

The moment Jax laid eyes on the beautiful red-haired Vanessa, he knew he wanted to get to know her better. And when Vanessa opened her mouth? He knew that the only way he stood a chance at that is to make her be around him. Vanessa not only was confident, sexy, and a tad bit bossy, she was the only woman he’d ever met that dismissed him….HIM! A MMA fighter who can have any girl he wants. So what if he tells her a little lie like saying they have to pretend to be Reid and Lucie in order to make sure all the plans are in order? It can’t be that big of a deal right? But when Vanessa and Jax spend time together, Jax realizes that there is so much more to Vanessa than what she presents to the world and he begins to fall for her….hard. Jax knows he should tell her that he lied to her, but he can’t seem to find the right way, or time and he’s not willing to give her up a moment before he has to. But when a phone call comes in with a family emergency for Vanessa, the truth will come out. But can Vanessa allow herself to break her rules for a chance at love with Jax or will she push him away and continue with her life, business as usual?

Looking for a picturesque location with breath taking romance and a whole lot of fun? Then Gina Maxwell’s next “Fighting for Love” novel is the one for you. This one will provide you with lots of steamy love scenes with comical dialogue and sexy banter. I enjoyed Vanessa’s desperate attempt to hold onto herself and her rules, while ultimately losing that battle and falling for Jax. The backstory of her life is so heartbreaking, yet inspiring, that I felt like it gave her character a great sense of realism. I also enjoyed getting to know Jax’s character with his hard edge yet protective and loving side toward both Vanessa and his little sister Lucie. I couldn’t help but turn page after page to find out what was going to happen between Vanessa and Jax and how their story would end. An exceptionally well written and entertaining novel by Gina L. Maxwell.

The heroine, Vanessa McGregor has had some crap during her life

The heroine, Vanessa McGregor has had some crap during her life so she came up with her 7 rules to live by and she has never broken one of those rules for any reason or anyone! Her best friend and old college roommate, Lucie is getting married to Reid on the island of Hawaii. Lucie was sick and asked her best friend to fly to Hawaii a few days earlier before the wedding to handle the last minute details for her.

Jackson "Jax" Maris, Lucie's brother and Reid's best friend lives in Hawaii. He is suppose to pick up Vanessa from the airport. Of course with Jax's laid back lifestyle, he is too busy surfing to get to the airport on time. Of course by the time he gets to the airport, Vanessa is ready to explode, and she does! She thought something bad happened to him and instead he tells her he was surfing. Vanessa tells him she will take a cab to the hotel herself!

Jax makes it to the posh hotel first, which he is part owner of. He convinces his friend who works at the check-in counter that he will have to pretend to be Reid and Vanessa will have to pretend to be Lucie and that she should just play along. Once Vanessa shows up he does a great job convincing Vanessa that they have to pretend to be Lucie and Reid or the hotel won't let them have their wedding there. Vanessa agrees to do it because she wants Lucie to have the wedding of her dreams.

As Jax tries to break through with Vanessa, she keeps sticking to her 7 rules. The storyline of these two pretending to be Lucie and Reid is great! It makes you laugh and makes you swoon. Jax's goal is to get Vanessa to break everyone of her 7 seven rules. By the end you can't help but root for the two of them to be together!

Another great story from Gina Maxwell.
