Overview

Lies, lies, too many lies ... Jane Dough washes her hands of her wacky family's deceptive ways. But when a disastrous situation with her homeowners' association threatens Jane's newfound security, and her family pumps up the pressure for her to sell her home, Jane reverts to family misbehavior. She blurts out a lie that she's advertising for a husband to help her out of her jam. It's just one little lie to get everyone off her back, so no harm done, right?

Wrong! Someone runs a Husband Wanted ad in Jane's name, and now she's stuck with the consequences of her lie, even though she has no intention of getting married. Meanwhile, there's that little business of losing her property if she doesn't bring it into conformance before the deadline, and with every step forward, she takes two back. And one is a misstep that leads her smack into the middle of a murder.

Either Jane is the unluckiest girl in the world or bad luck is getting good help. Surely not from Mark and Sue, her two best friends, or from the drop-dead gorgeous doctor who comes bearing gifts. And that sexy new neighbor, a hunk of a Texan cowboy, must be on her side. It's a shame she can't tell the truth about what's really going on, but that doesn't give everyone else the right to lie, does it?

Well, maybe it does. Or maybe not. Or maybe Jane just doesn't know the rules ... of lying.

Meet the Author

Stephie Smith was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the fifth of six girls. Early years were spent making mischief and, in general, driving her parents crazy while the family migrated between Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida. In fact, her family moved so often--18 times before Stephie finished sixth grade--that some people suspected they were running from the law.

Stephie left home at 14, finished high school at 16, and joined the Air Force at 18, graduating with honors from the USAF Schools of Electronics and Instrumentation. After attending several colleges and universities around the country (switching majors from Chemistry to Art to English to Psychology but never figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up), she followed her sisters to east central Florida and settled there. She remains there today writing historical romance, humorous women's fiction, and computer how-to books. You can contact her through her website www.StephieSmith.com. She loves to hear from readers.

Can't wait for the next book!

I laughed out loud several times while reading this book. The main character Jane Dough over analyzes, takes things personally, gets into situations reminiscient of Lucy Ricardo, and vacillates between loving and hating men, but for all her faults she is likeable. There;s a sister who tries to fix everything, a spoiled selfish sister, another who openly criticizes Jane and a difficult mother that Jane is always second-guessing. There are also two equally hot heroes -- reminds me of the Stephanie Plum novels that I love. The scenes with the agent who tries to get Jane to write a hero without castrating him and with Jane's boss who wants to help resurrect Jane's romance writing career by writing "purple prose" are hilarious. The ending was a surprise and I loved it. So glad this is a series. Can't wait fo rthe next one.

What fun! I got a kick out of Jane's adventures, especially her dating adventures wtith two equally appealing guys. It's refreshing to read a book that's both sexy and sweet, but not too sexy and not too sweet. Give me this kind of story over 50 Shades any day!
