Rules [Explicit Lyrics]

All Music Guide - Rick Anderson
Ah, yes, the '70s. You remember the '70s, of course: big hair, big sunglasses, bell bottoms, Rat pedals, lead singers who kept referring to women as "mama." That's basically Supagroup's whole frame of reference: if you're over 30, think Aerosmith if you're under 30, think Lenny Kravitz. The only thing that betrays Supagroup's second album as a product of the 21st century is the band's deep and sincere love of the F word, which didn't crop up so often on rock albums 30 years ago. Everything else is vintage '70s: the hair; the clothes; the cheese-a-rific hooks; the yowling vocals; the big, fat, nasty guitars. With all those visual and musical elements in mind, song titles ...

Everything else is vintage '70s: the hair; the clothes; the cheese-a-rific hooks; the yowling vocals; the big, fat, nasty guitars. With all those visual and musical elements in mind, song titles like "Ready to Go" "I really need some sleep/She wants to go all night", "Hot Times" "I don't know but I've been told/Girls gone wild for rock & roll", and "Let's Go Get Wasted" "Let's go get wasted" will come as no surprise. What does come as a surprise is the lyric to "I'm Gonna Change," which actually borders on introspective. Also, L7 and Hole may be surprised to learn that "it takes balls if you rock & roll" -- though they won't be surprised to hear guys like these say it. Politically correct they aren't, but lots of good, sleazy fun they are.
