Overview

Following the publication of Rescue: Pop-Up Emergency Vehicles and Puppies, Kittens & Other Pop-Up Pets, Matthew Reinhart turns his pop-up wizardry on two new subjects: dinosaurs and princesses. This young and very affordable pop-up series is perfect for these economic times.

Rumble! Roar! Dinosaurs! features bright cut-paper collage artwork, just right for the young set. Pop-ups of a Stegosaurus, an Apatosaurus and her baby, a Deinonychus, a Pteranodon, a Triceratops, and the grand finale of a T-Rex and an Ankylosaur in a fight to the finish are brought to life with pop-ups, pull-tabs, lift-the flaps, and more. The inside front and back covers will feature a bookplate, a pronunciation guide with art, and a coloring activity for added value.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Most of Reinhart's pop-up books hover around , so this paperback pop-up is a serious bargain (coloring book pages that open and close the book only add value). Inside, kids will find pared-down versions of Reinhart's trademark pop-ups that still show a good deal of personality and ingenuity. In one spread, readers pull down on a cloud to reveal a green pteranodon keeping an eye on her "precious eggs," and in the final scene, "Armored Ankylosaurus fights back" against a T. rex; tugging its head causes its "knobby tail" to swing toward the aggressor. Cheap thrills—in a good way. Simultaneously available: A Princess Like Me. Ages 3–8. (Aug.)

Children's Literature - Nancy Garhan Attebury
This is a delightful book with a clever title and plenty of colorful pop-up artwork. A looming stegosaurus with flame orange, bony plates pops to attention when the first spread is opened. In addition, six more dinosaurs including an Apatosaurus, a Pteranodon, a Triceratops, and a T-Rex magically appear in pop-ups and plod across the pages. Two to three sentences per page contain facts and habits about the creatures. Each page begins with gripping words like "Boom! Crash! Crunch" or "Stomp! Rumble! Roar!" Arrows indicate how the pop-ups should be manipulated. Background paintings imitate the environments in which dinosaurs lived. A back page has a head shot of each dinosaur from the book and its name with a pronunciation key. The inside front and back covers are dinosaur line drawings for readers to color. This book works well to introduce children to dinosaurs. Children will enjoy working the pop-ups over and over again. Reviewer: Nancy Garhan Attebury
Kirkus Reviews
Making up in drama for what it lacks in numbers, this slender paperbound gallery of dinos features pop-up or pull-tab surprises on each of its five spreads. Within, seven popular types of prehistoric monsters depicted in vivid, high-contrast colors rear up with ferocious scowls to attack, defend or, in the case of Apatosaurus, simply to pose above treetops in lordly majesty. The captions that accompany the images combine emphatic sound words with action clues--"Stomp! Rumble! Roar! Hungry Tyrannosaurus rex stalks forward and snaps his powerful jaws" (very smoothly, once readers pull on its tail, which doubles as a pull-tab). Reinhart closes with a pronunciation guide and for added value, supplies melodramatic outline figures inside the front and rear covers for young artists to color. A quick fix for younger dinosaur devotees, from the co-author of the spectacular Encyclopedia Prehistorica (2005-2007). (Pop-up/informational picture book. 4-6)
