    The country side

This story takes place at the same time as Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and so leads to inevitable comparisons. Ferrell Sams tells the country's side of the depression. The story highlights the boy's great love for his father and his realization that his towering father has a number of flaws. It is a funny book with a heart wrenching ending. It highlights much of the nobility of one who tries to exercise his faith, but it also shows how repugnant and distasteful the fallen nature of man can be.

    Americana at it's best.

Though this book is fiction, someone who knows the author told me that he had been a patient of Dr. Sams and wondered if the book was perhaps a little bit of an autobiography. All three books in this series are a pure delight to read. Porter Osbourne, Jr. is a character you will want to remember.

Greatest story of southern life during Depression

This book was excellent. Once you started you could not put it down. Having grown up with parents, brother and sisters who lived during this era of our country, it made the things described in the book more real

    Pretty Good

I wasn't expecting this book to be as hilarious as it was. It follows the antics of a young boy on a farm in Georgia, and shows how matures. It does a wonderful job of describing the characters as well. Hands down recommended.

    A Wonderful Book

This is my second favorite book (Trailing behind Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird). It was beautifully written with many predicaments that describe the adolescent process to the point. This book is a MUST for anyone wanting to read a wonderful American classic. Brillance. Pure brilliance.

    Very funny!

This is one of the funniest books i have ever read. The Sequel is funnier but this book is still very funny. You need to read it just to laugh a little bit

An absolute must for the Southern reader!

This book should be required reading for all modern Southerners, so that they can understand the heritage of the region - black and white. Wonderfully told tale full of beauty, wit, and grace. I simply can't say enough good things about this novel. Once you start you have to read all the way through ' Horseman, Whisper Of The River, and When All The World Was Young. That way you see innocence become cynicisim and back home again. Excellent, you won't be disappointed!

    A wonderfully told story

I read Run With The Horsemen in the mid-1980,s and passed my copy of the book on to a friend to read. My friend passed the copy on to someone else to read and I moved out of state and never got my book back. Now I am buying a new copy to pass on to another friend to read. I highly recommend this well told story of a boy growing up in Georgia in the early part of the 20th century.
