Lynn’s overpowering mother drove her away from the luxury of her Houston home. Lynn could never please her mom and moving to a reservation in New Mexico was the last place Joyce expected her daughter to run.
On her first day at the new school where she’s the fifth grade teacher, she crashes headlong into Greg. He’s teaches sixth grade. They share lesson plans and ice cream and by Thanksgiving realize they’re falling in love.
Lynn invites Greg back to Houston for Christmas but her mother tries to sabotage Lynn’s plans inviting an ex-boyfriend, Mark, to dinner. Greg doesn’t think he can match Mark’s reputation as an established lawyer, soon to make partner, or Joyce’s expectations. Greg has a secret, too, and being with her family and attending Christmas Eve services, he understands he isn’t following God as he should.
Lynn and Greg return to the reservation after Christmas barely speaking to each other. Will they find a way to mend their broken hearts or will they always be running from their fears?
Ms. Cogan writes a compelling story full of bright hope for the future. I highly recommend this well thought out and enjoyable novel.

This is a very sweet love story about two wounded people. I thoroughly enjoyed reading how they discovered healing by caring for each other. The southwestern setting really added to the story for me.
