    The Best Resource to Date

    This is absolutely Thorsson's best work and, in fact, it's the best resource for esoteric runelore on the market today. Contrary to other reviewers' opinions, the interpretations given in this book are based on traditional runelore as outlined in the recorded rune poems. These interpretations may come as a shock to those who are more accustomed to Blum's personal gnosis. However, those who are more interested in tradition than fantasy will find this book a valuable resource. Every time I read this book, I get something new out of it. It represents truly outstanding insights and research.

    Textbook reading, lacking decent meanings...

    I have an extensive 'library' of books on the Elder Futhark and Runes in general, and compared to some, this book was definetly lacking something. The first half is actually quite good, and traces a detailed and interesting history of runes. The second half deals with the meanings, and based upon my other readings, this is the part in which the book is lacking. If you're looking for a good history of the Runes, I highly reccommend this book; however, if you are new to the Elder Futhark or any Rune system, or if it is meanings you seek, I would suggest finding another source. Some of Thorsson's meanings, I feel, are way off base.
