Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father's disappearance, her mother's erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James--a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin's dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can't stop thinking about him. Half the time, she's not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review on Netgalley.

Wow! I've got to start by saying that it takes something original and excellent to surprise me, and this book did just that! I found myself about 75% of the way through the book with my mouth hanging open. That pretty much didn't stop until I was finished. I also blew through this book in less than 2 days because I just couldn't put the darn thing down! This was a fun and addictive YA paranormal roma

So its been a very long times since I have read a book that I just couldn't put down. In fact the last one I remember was the divergent series which I read back in February. Okay so not so long ago, but in reading years...thats a really long time.

Raine is an ordinary girl who has just lost her Father...and by lost I mean there was a tragic plane accident, and no one can find. Lives with her mother, who she believes might totally be insane. Has two friends Cora, her very best friend, w

This book reminds me of The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones but a tad bit better :-). I enjoyed this read. 5 stars for sure.

I pretty much devoured this one (shoot, the whole series, or at least what's available at this time!). I've always loved mythology and, while I have read a few YA reads centered around Norse mythology, I think this one is probably my favorite. The Norse mythology seems to be "more" in this one than others (i.e. more than just the gods). I enjoyed the relationships/interactions between all of the characters. Cora is the awesome bestie. Eirik, the sweet childhood friend (and crush). Then you have Torin (seemingly irresistible, mysterious new neighbor) Andris (okay, now HE is the definition of cocky), Ingrid, and Maliina (the girl you love to hate). The main plot (underneath the romance) was really good and intrigued me. The ending IS something of a cliffhanger so, if you enjoyed this one like I did, prepare to just go ahead and get the rest of the series. I will be keeping this one (and the rest of the series) to revisit again!

I've been reading a lot of erotic books lately, and felt the need to read Young Adult or Paranormal- and I came across this book. The plot got me for this one. I started reading it and couldn't put it down. As everyone mentioned, the plot is intriguing and it kept me on the edge! No dull moments and it's a fast paced story. There were times when I wanted to smack the girl for being stubborn, but other than that the characters are great. Love Torin! So mysterious! hehe.

I received a copy of Runes by Ednah Walters from NetGalley for an honest review. I must say, that I am quite happy to have read this story. I was sucked in at the beginning and was held hostage until I was done. Raine Cooper is your average teenager. She does well in school, is in band and the swim team. Her dad is missing from a plane crash and her mom refuses to give up hope that he will one day come home. Aside from this, life is good. She’s happy and in love with the boy of her dreams, Eirik. If only he would make it official and ask her out. Instead, they are stuck at the BFF level. When Torin St. James comes to town and moves in next door, sparks fly. He is your typical bad guy, tall, dark and handsome. Actually, he is smoking hot. It’s a rocky start for Torin and Raine when they first meet but there is no denying the chemistry. Queue the beginning of a fun love triangle. Should Raine explore these new feeling and desires awakened in her by this bad boy or stay in the safety net of her long time love for Eirik? That is just part of the story. The rest begins during the team bonding event at the park for the swim team and bad boy Torin swoopes in to save Raine which opens up a whole new world for Raine. I’m happy to say that with all the characters in this book, not one was lacking. Each had their place and moment with the proper rapport between them all. Job well done!!

Had a few grammatical errors, but nothing bad enough to take off a star. Plus the whole story makes up for it. This book will literally suck you in and leave you begging for more. Its a must read, and i can't wait to start reading the rest of the series!!

I could not put it down! I loved this spin on the genre. It was excellently written: humor, drama, sadness... I went through the whole whirlwind of emotions. The ending is definitely a cliffhanger that leaves you on the edge of your seat and screaming for the next book. Pick up a copy today, you wont regret it.

AN MAGNETIC UNIQUE READ LEAVING YOU BREATHLESS FOR MORE! Runes by Ednah Walters is a Young Adult Paranormal Romance. Her other work includes  THE GUARDING LEGACY SERIES.  If you are looking for something new to read. You have found it. Just by the beautiful cover itself  tells you if will be good. Ednah Walters did an outstanding job bringing something new that has  never been dealt with (that I have read so far anyways).  She brings in Norse and Nephilim mythology,  something I have never heard before and learned from the author. It was very interesting how well she  brought it to the story. The author sets up a story revolving around an typical seventeen year old. One day (which doesn't  surprises me), a new neighbor enters her world and Raine falls over his hunky figure, piercing blue eyes and sexy handsome smirk. Who wouldn't. I defiantly would if her situation fell on my shoulders. The story continues until Raine gets hurt and Torin, the mysterious biker hunk rescues Raine and  heals her. Raine's live takes a turn as she discovers she isn't normal and gets dragged into something she couldn't possibly believe exists.  Ednah did brilliantly with her characters. I love dark and mysterious babes and Ednah made me fall head over heels over Torin. Loved the triangle setup between Eirik, Raine's boyfriend and her new neighbor Torin.  What put me off about the book was it reminded me of Twilight and The Mortal Instruments. Like Twilight, Raine was on the computer doing research on her new neighbor who so happens to have a magical pen that draws ruins on people like The Mortal Instruments. That was the only thing I did  not like about the book. For that is the only reasons of my four star review. Once the story picks up, you will find your self reading another chapter. So if you like a page-tuner  this is for you. Also it has action scenes, romance(of course) and will keep you guessing what will happen next. I would highly recommended this book to all and cannot wait to read the next books of the series.

I received an eARC from Firetrail Publishing through NetGalley for an honest review. This was an interesting spin on mythology that reminded me of Thor as I read it. It's funny because I just barely watched the movie Thor a few days ago and then I read this book and recognized a bunch of the mythology. Runes is about a girl named Raine whose dad has been missing and never recovered from a plane crash, and she thinks she is in love with her best friend, Eirick. A stranger moves in next door named Torin St. James and she finds herself strangely drawn to him. He is mysterious and hot as all get out with blue eyes that she has a hard time resisting. Torin may not be all human, and she struggles to discover what he is and what he and his mysterious friends are hiding. And why all of a sudden she sees runes all over the place. And a bad case of the Norns are there to screw things up a bit, and add to the fun. I almost found Torin as the only thing likeable about the story. The tension between him and Raine was delightful, exciting, and flutter inducing. But the triangles that seemed to be going on all over the place irritated me. I love a good triangle, but it was like everyone had a crush on someone else and nobody wanted to admit their true feelings. Except maybe Torin, but even he had a game he was playing. The end revealed many surprises, and a few I did not expect. I was kind of mad about a big one between Raine and Torin, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the sequel. I enjoyed that this book was different than any other I have read and was a new surprise on mythology. It was a good start to a series that I may continue.

Raine is having her world turned every which way. She lost her father and has no idea if he's alive or dead. Her mother is always busy with work but tries her best to be there for her. Her best friend and ex next door neighbor just starts to take their relationship to the next level. Yet, she's attracted to the new neighbor Torin and doesn't want to disappoint or hurt Eric or her other BFF. Torin is... Wow! Haha, he's hot and mostly wise, yet he's got his hands tied because of his job. And I can't really say much about it without really giving away all the magic you should explore about him yourself. Ednah does an amazing job with provoking a feeling I long forgot. I too had my own Eric and all our friends and even us thought we should be together and it would last forever. But is it really that kind of love? How do you explain that without hurting everyone including yourself? It's certainly it's own type of love. And she completely goes for it and it's perfectly expressed in the writing. The characters and the world she builds are thought provoking and mystifying. I love how she weaves in myth and magic into their tale. I've always been a huge fan of mythology and it's what drew me to paranormal romances when I was young. This my not be one of my naughty books but it is certainly sweet, exciting, and worth the read. I can't wait for book 2!

I read this a few months back before it was released and at the time I had been browsing through NetGalley, and in the back of my mind I really wanted to find a good Paranormal. It's always been my favorite genre and I had been stuck in a rut of Contemporaries. Which was fine...but I needed to mix it up a little bit. The cover of Runes caught my eye first. I thought it was beautiful and with a name like Runes I was hopeful that I may have found what I was looking for. So I clicked over and read the blurb and I was hooked. I had to click request. And it didn't disappoint. Once I had my hands on it, I found it hard to put it down. Most of the characters were great. Raine is in a lot of ways like how I am now. Bookworm? Check! Quirky? Check! Babbles when nervous? Double check! Watches The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural? Uhh hello! You had me at Supernatural! Anyway she's fun and I really like her. Torin is just delicious. I dunno what it is with Harley riding dangerous boys that give cutesy nicknames (Freckles...What? I thought it was cute!) lately, all I know is my list of book crushes is getting beyond huge. Eirik, the boyfriend from the summary, is good and sweet and reliable and the boy you've known your whole life and grew up with him and crushed on him. So yeah he's great and all, but typical me. I want the bad boy! Then we have Cora. Now in the very first couple paragraphs I liked her! I really did. But then she said one thing in a "baby talk" kind of way and that's such a HUGE pet peeve of mine that I wound up having it out for her most of the book (But really when it comes down to it she was pretty fun too I just like to hold a grudge lol). I have a love for all things mythological so that just made this book double enjoyable for me. I wanted more of it because to be perfectly honest I've never really looked into Norse Mythology. My interest on the subject has been mostly centered around Greek Mythology. So it's pretty interesting to dig in and learn more, I Googled stuff on Odin mostly, while I was reading this. Just to try and get just a bit of an idea of what that dude was all about. I was also fascinated with the whole concept of the runes. I'm hoping for more of all of this in Immortals (Runes #2) coming out in August. I can't wait!! The biggest reason I can't wait? That evil Ednah Walters left us with a MAJOR cliffhanger. Oh my freaking immortal babies everywhere. Now I love a good cliffhanger, I know not a lot of us do but what can I say I'm crazy that way. But this book. OMG I think I yelled at my computer. Straight up told it to "Shut the *BEEP* up!!" Along with an endless stream of "No no no no no!!" Yeah it was that big of a deal lol. I bow down to the queen of the epic cliffhanger. I never saw it coming. Awesome curve ball of a twist. I highly recommend this book to those of you into the paranormal, mythology, romantic types. Yeah I know I just said there's a major cliffhanger but trust me...it is so worth it!! This was my first book by Ednah Walters and it definitely won't be my last! I want to thank Firetrail Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book! :)

This YA book was so good. It had great characters, great conflict, and great movement. It had intensity. It had a delicious love triangle (and then some). And it had suspense. It held my attention from the beginning. There were several moments when I did not know who was good or who was bad. I love that the book kept me guessing. The story was distinctive and unusual. As strange or even as eerily familiar as some aspects of the story seemed, it all worked and gave me as a reader a wonderful reading experience with a whole new world to consider. I must say, I was so not expecting that ending. Oh my! Bring on book 2!!! Rating: 4/5 This title was made available for review by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange an honest critique. The words I have expressed are my own.

Mythology is an amazing genre of fantasy. I'll admit that I usually find Norse mythology a little bit boring compared to Greek/Roman, but this really drew me in. This is not one of those action packed books. The plot is conventional - a slow buildup to a climax at the end, and then a cliffhanger (I would have died if the second book hadn't been released). But you know what? I think that's one of the many, many reasons I really enjoyed this book. Simple, but detailed. I love it. I was hooked from the very first page. With each page, my involvement grew, and I began to feel like I was part of the world and characters. I finished the book in one sitting. It is so well written! As for my favorite character, at this point, that would definitely be Torin........ You'll find out why there's no doubt about it when you read the book. Even with Raine, Cora, Maliina (how do you pronounce her name anyway?) the character development was flawless and natural, and nothing was really cliche. Guess what? The first book is free in an online format. Take advantage of it!

I take forever to find a book im interested in, but once i do, i cannot put it down. This was one of those books for me. I found it free on my nook app and was intrigued by the cover and title. I've finished this book and the next in the series in just 3 days! Cannot wait to read number 3 and more from this author. In a packed genre with lots of copycat themes, Runes brings out a new set of paranormal characters with great personality and intriguing twists. Well done!

Excellent beginning of a series! This was my first experience with Ednah Walters' work. I love the romance that unfolds between Torin and Raine. Most importantly, the underlying story is strong and the book doesn't solely rely upon romance. I couldn't put it down. I downloaded this book for free and quickly needed to buy the rest of the available books in the series. The Runes series has become one of the treasures that I count as a favorite. If you like mythology and fantasy, this book is for you.
