Overview

In the kingdom of Asgarnia, though the Knights of Falador defend the land a protect the people, they face threats that clamor from all sides-and from within. Enemies mass at borders, and a killer stalks the night killing innocents and slipping away unseen.

When a young woman appears in the teeth of the storm, her sudden arrival launches a chain of events that endangers the very fabric of magic. And unless the knights can solve the riddle of Kara-Meir, everything they hold close may be lost.

Their one hope may lie in the hands, not of a knight, but of an untested squire named Theodore...

Library Journal
Ancient protectors of the Kingdom of Asgarnia, the Knights of Falador find themselves facing a threat to their brotherhood and the realm's safety when a young girl appears in the midst of a storm bearing an item that links her to a tale of treachery among the knights. The future of the world lies in the hands of the girl and an untried squire. Set in the medieval fantasy world of the popular RuneScape free massive multiplayer online role-playing (MMORPG) game, this series opener serves as both an introduction to the game world and a first-rate fantasy adventure that does not require game-related knowledge to enjoy. VERDICT Fans of the online game as well as general fantasy lovers will appreciate this well-written tale of epic fantasy and personal struggle. [First published in 2008 in a limited-run hardback edition, this prequel launches a tie-in series with the second title, Return to Canifis, to be published in February 2011.—Ed.]

I ordered this book when it was first published. My only regret was that I didn't wait longer to get it, due to pricing. As a fan of the game & an avid reader though, I just didn't want to wait. I'd have to say it was worth every penny. It definitely leaves you wondering when the next one will be out. It seemed like such a huge book but the style of writing & short chapters even kept my ADHD teen son interested. You don't have to play the game to enjoy the book. The author is very descriptive & even gave me some insights into the game. This is a good book for fans of the game & anyone who likes medieval fantasy. I will definitely be getting the second book, Return to Canifis.

I must say that I was surprised by the detail and deepness offered in Betrayal at Falador. As an avid player and fan of the game it was an easy decision to pick this one up, my only regret was not picking it up sooner! At its low price you really don't have an excuse not to!

Church has, again, created a masterpiece, in his own way. Starting off slowly, he gives us an interesting and unique story, when suddenly, without warning, he thrusts his reader into an intense and emotional storyline, which is impossible to stop reading!
