Overview

After a night of gambling, Kenshin and Sanosuke return with an unexpected prize - a woman. Beautiful and mysterious, Takani Megumi, the daughter of a famous family of physicians, has unwittingly been participating in the production of a super-powerful, super-profitable form of opium. Hot on her trail is shady industrialist Kanryu, and Sanosuke may not be her best protector after the death of one of his friends from an opium overdose. But Kenshin has looked into her eyes and seen her sadness. He knows he must act - but will he be able to save her from the wrath of Kanryu, or for that matter, from Sanosuke?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publishers Weekly
A new direction begins for this enormously popular series as its protagonist, a wandering samurai, heads to Kyoto to prevent an assassination. Kenshin doesn't even appear in the first half of the book; instead, those who cared for him and called him friend react to his departure. The fighters respond to his perceived abandonment with rage, while in an affecting chapter, the women compare their hurts in an effort to determine who cares for him more. It's refreshing to see Watsuki's talent grow as he further defines the title character through the passion of the supporting cast. The distinctive character designs nicely complement the story's action, humor and drama, and the bold type fits the approach and makes the story easy to read. The battles are convenient standbys, symbolizing the deep emotions held by the various participants. Later in the book, Kenshin reappears to encounter a new character, a spunky young thief. She has his fighting talent and determination, but she's pledged to the other side in a situation fraught with conflict. As always with this series, the question of honor and duty is lightened through humor and the cast's zest for life. It's easy to see why this is such a well-liked book, especially for those seeking the excitement of adventure comics presented with a fresh approach. (Oct.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Rurouni Kenshin is one of the best Samurai Anime that I have ever both read and watched. Filled with adventures, and villans who threaten to destroy Japan that the top Samurai, Kenshin Himura (aka Himura Battousai), won't stand for it. I love the episodes, the OVA and the music! Go RK!

Probobly the worst one of the series; it is bad, but it shows kenshin going to kyoto, a very important part of the storyline. Mostly throughout the book kenshin is 'evil kenshin'. It's not the best of the series, but it's a must have if you are collecting.
